Spondylolysis, im 15!!!!!!
Hi guys,
Ive had lowwer back pains for almost 2 years now, it was affecting my posture. Following a recent X-Ray, ive been diagnosed with Spondylolysis. 50 percent spillage so far. They have refered my to a orthapedic clinic. Im really worried, im not sure if these physio visits will be enough, from what ive read, the bone has snapped. Will exercises heal my bone?
How common is this in teenage 'athletes', is surgery dangerous? how succesful is this? Please guys, any info will reaaly help.

hey bro im 15 too and ive had back pain for about the same amount of time as you. im pretty sure i got the same thing as u. i went to about 4 or 5 different doctors before my mom decided to try a chiropractor.
first of all when do u feel the pain? do u have long periods of time with no pain and then a period of pain for about 2 weeks before returning to pain free times? This is what happens with me. Unfortunately dude, i was told that this bone can never heal, no matter the amount of physical therapy and surgery, they cant heal it. but with proper care, u can make it like my case which i have interval pain and pain free stages. more time with no pain than time with pain.
i was told no contact sports(hockey, football, lacrosse, rugby, etc) but i could lift weights with proper form and play non-contact sports as long as it didnt irratate my back (tennis, raquetball, baseball, basketball, volleyball, etc).
Ive always been very athletic and this news for me to stop playing hockey was heartbreaking since id been playing since i was 5. But it had to be done. If i were you i'd contact a chiropractor first and foremost. The stereotypes about them arent always true if you find yourself a legitamit firm. The cracking doesnt hurt, and if your posture is bad, like mine once was, then the chiropractor can help re-align your back to its straightened position and help with better posture. Hope this helped even a little. pm me or repost with anymore questions. i could remember most of my past treatments.
ps..i went through physical therapy for about 3-4 months and it helped for a while, but not completely. They only want the money. Unless they are true therapists.

Exercises will not heal bone, but therapy may aid it the recovery process. Always try to avoid surgery unless it is absolutely necessary. There are inherent risks in doing surgery. Try physical therapy first, they may be able to alleviate, or eliminate the pain while the body heals itself.
