Cholesterol meds
Hello, folks.. just found this website and am reading with great appreciation all of the postings.. I do have high BP and am on my second kind of meds trying to lower my BP .. also , now have high cholesterol and am wondering if instead of going on Lipitor, Crestor, etc. if there is anyway my diet can lower it.. I eat very healthy... lowest of low salt, virtually no fast food and now have almost given up red meat.. do eat Chicken, some fish, lots of turkey..tuna.. Have a great doc who is conservative in giving out just any meds, but says I really need to be on a cholesterol lowering drug.. My chol. level is 241 with only 41% being the LDL.. any suggestions???? Thanks so much...

I have the same problem, and have been told to exercise. I know it sounds corny or common sense, but my doctor told me that is the best thing to combat all these problems. Exercise helps build up the "good" cholestrol and loses weight. She has advised me not to hit the weights hard until I get all this under control.
I've been trying to walk more in every day activities, and need to make more time to exercise regularly.

lowering cholesterol
Thank you very much.. Beginning a new job on Monday and I will have plenty of walking in the position.. I just hate to start meds..a pharmacist told me yesterday that they have many complaints about Lipitor.. My doc says he will let me choose which one I want, but none look good to me.. He also said I can get off them once the chol. level is better, but that it will just rise again!!I"m going to try my diet again.. lots of fiber etc.. Thanks again for your input...

Cholesterol
Hi,
We all have risk factors such as genetic from our parents and our age and sex which we can't modify.
The ones we can modify are lifestyle and exercise.
I would suggest you go on a very low cholesterol diet and become a vegetarian eating a low amount of cheese. Also, forget about all the high fat fast foods and desserts.
Loose weight if you need to.
In my opion statins Lipitor, Crestor and others all called (HMG CoA reductase Inhibitors) in the long term will leed to more problems and if you can lick the problem on your own you are way ahead.
I am a vegetarian and so is my wife. We both work out almost every day. I am 43 and she is 47. She was informally voted at the gym we to as having the best body there, comparing her to ladies half her age.
Good luck and try throwing in some Yoga to reduce stress.

Statins
Hi,
Another note all statins can cause Rhabdomyolosis which is a sore muscle condition and is very dangerous.
Again try diet and exercise before going the easy way out and taking pills that fix one thing and do bad things in other areas.

yea try to do it naturally. cardio, moderate training, good diet rich in protein, low fat, low salt, low carb, high fiber. you will be back in business very soon. Make sure to use some garlic tabs as well. garlic works wonders!
