When your on antidepressants are you supposed to be a bot or something?
It seems as though the people who you think love you always turn out to hurt you more...I am 23 and I am on antidepressants (have been since I was 8 yrs. old). I have severe depression among other things, and have been in and out of shrinks for as long as I can remember. All growing up I was on Zaloft, then I got put on effexor then (when I was pregnant) I was on lexapro and effexor. Both of these meds are a pretty high dosage, to say the least.
But my question is: when you are on meds like I am on, or any for that matter, for a psychological disorder (being ADD, ADHD, or even depression), are you not supposed to get mad about things, and cry when your hurt? I have come to find out that you arent...by my husband most of all...and other family members. Every time I get mad or cry they ask me "Did you take your medicine today?" It erks me so bad. I dont know the right answer for that, but I do know that "IF" you are on meds you dont become numb to everything, just suicide (talking about why I am on them). But I still have feelings too, just like the rest of them. How am I supposed to react when people say that kind of stuff to me? Its so frustrating that I just want to scream...PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE!!!!

I think the best thing is explain to those people, especially your husband, how you feel when asked that. You explained it pretty well here; I think you could express it verbally as well. Try to use a non-confrontational approach, just state how it makes you feel.
If you're seeing a psychiatrist (which I presume you are), it would be helpful to get his advice on this.

Hey Edward Norton said it best In Fight Club
"you always hurt the ones you love." Its human nature
See one thing about us as human being is our greatest assets is our ability to adapt
We adapt to any enviroment as long as we can survive in that enviroment. Abusive, Poor, rich, poverty, once you adapt then you find what your mentality is like, if your a happy person then you'll be happy no matter what and if your a sad person its the other way around.

My mother is on andi-depressants and she still gets mad, cries, hurts...alot and she tells us when she is. I don't know if its a good thing or a bad thing. But sometimes you do need to just let it all out.

Antidepressants are prescribed to lessen the symptoms of depression and/or anxiety, not to rob you of all emotion. To the original poster- you mention that you are on high doses of both Effexor and Lexapro. This is a potentially dangerous combination that would not normally be used. Effexor is an SNRI (Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor) and Lexapro is an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) both of which are indicated for the treatment of MDD (Major Depressive Disorder). They are NOT meant to be used in combination as both are fairly specific to the neurotransmitter serotonin (meaning at most doses they do exactly the same thing) and have not been studied as combination therapy. Potential adverse effects could include increased blood pressure, anxiety, insomnia and a number of other problems related to Serotonin Shock Syndrome (a term used to describe a period of too much serotonin in the brain). Ask your psychiatrist why you're being prescibed both at the same time. Honestly, I sold drugs in this class for five years working with hundreds of MD's and never heard once of a physician using both Lexapro (or it's parent compound Celexa) and Effexor in combination.
