Default Climbing In New York?

I Hear there are some places to go climbing in NY? I live in Manhattan and someone told me that there was a place to go sport climbing that was really good about an hour North from here?????

Yes! Great climbing about 90 miles north of Manhatten, a place called the Shawangunks. Personally, I've never been but many of my friends say it's great. Mostly "traditional" type rock climbing....ie. crack climbing where you place your own gear for protection.
Do a google search and you'll find all the info you need.

Go to the Ramapo Mountains in New Jersey. 4,200 acres of untouched forest.

Not sure how much "established" rock climbing there is in the Ramapo area. The Gunks have thousands of climbing routes and various guide books that list route names and difficulty information.

Climbing is not allowed anywhere in NJ. The Gunks are far but they are the place to go.
