Smile Hiking with your dog(s)

I love to go hiking in the wooded hills around my town.
What makes it extra special is taking my dogs with me. I love hiking with dogs.

Does anyone else have dogs they enjoy being fit with?

lol aww, she sounds cute. Yes, I would like to ride a bike with my dogs running alongside, but I just see it being a disaster lol

I'd like to try rollerblading though, I think that might work.

thanks for the response!

I take my German Shepherd with me everywhere I go. We run trails most weeks and do long day hikes on any available weekend. She also runs beside us when I ride horses. A trail wouldn't be the same without my dog!

I have this little Pekingese dog named Rascal, and he wouldn't survive some hike. I wouldn't take any dog on a hike. Overheating/exhaustion is so likely it's not even funny.

Hiking or walking on the street or in a park you should always have
your dog under control with a 6 ft. (or less) leash. Don't think because
your dog obeys in the house (backyard) that it will outside. There are to
many varibles no matter how well trained your dog is, and with multipled
dogs forget it. Another dog, a rabbit, a lsnake a lizard a new smell anything
can distract your dog and in that instant, you lose control and someone
gets bit, your dog gets bit by a wild animal (or another dog) or chews
the wrong plant. Plus of course the above mentioned overheating.
Is it only a risk until it happens?

I walk my dogs around town everyday and mostly enjoy it. Sometime the young one gets way too hyper and pully. If he wouldn't get so hyper I would probably go for longer and more interesting walks with them.
When I had only one dog I'd take her running all the time because I knew that she'd behave. now that I have 2 and the young one is so unpredictable, I don't want to run out of fear of injury to one or both of us.
I enjoy running with them so I'm hoping that as he gets older, he calms down and I can run with them again.

yea my hybrid siberian timber loves to run with me. huge dog. very beautiful. trys to speak instead of barking. makes this whoo whoo sorta noise instead but its amazing if you pay attention to it how it changes in pitch and frequencys. and his guttural howling at the moon is amazing also. shame i have to keep him on a chain the majority of his life but he loves going for rides and all in the pickup and going other places with me.

I have seven dogs...5 rottweilers a Dogue De Bordeau, and a sharpei...love to hike the mountains with them! Can't take the sharpei...that little runt won't listen and ran off a couple of times, causing us to search for hours....a dog her size would have a rough go alone against the many resident coyotes....I've been slacking lately, gotta get back out there, thanks for the reminder!

quick idea... if your little girl the sharpei likes the hiking you could just walk her with a leash while the others run along. just an idea..

as for you and your dogs and hiking...I'm EXTREMELY jealous and CANNOT wait till I get to do that with mine.

That to me was very funny. Been there done that too. We have a lot of ground in Kansas and used to have a German Shorthair till he was stolen. I trained him and he was INCREDIBLE! Used him for pheasant, quail, and even dove. He loved it and I miss him terribly.

my dogs are spoiled and seem to like it.lol.......we take them a lot of places,a fawn and a brindle boxer. They are great inside even sleep on the bed lol...but like OBE said when they
go outside and start sniffing around sometimes they get a little hyper. We also take em to
my in laws because they have a very large fenced in yard that way they can stretch out and
run.Thanks for listening.
