Best smoothie?
I'm sure there have been many threads on this, but I thought I would share my favorite one:
In a blender, mix:
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (I use GNCs, expensive but best tasting IMO)
half serving dried oatmeal
vanilla yogurt (fat free or lowfat)
frozen blueberries
a few coffee beans (or mocha)
5 ice cubes
milk (fat free or low fat)
makes 2 servings
also, since I am trying to keep my weight up, I add:
creatine
a multivitamin
glucosamine
1egg
almonds can also be added if you like that kind of texture in a smoothie
Portions can be varied, depending on preferences. Having this for breakfast every day has helped bring me from 175 lbs to 188 within a month, while looking MUCH leaner (especially around the abs) and not changing any other part of my diet. I do realize the creatine has something to do with that though! The best part is that I don't really like unsweatened oatmeal or fruit, and this makes them taste good and reminds me to take my multivitamin.
As far as adding in other supplements, I have learned the hard way that most don't change the flavor too much, but do NOT add OMEGA-3 pills (fish oil)! Also, flaxseed tends to make it a little bitter.

I don't think that the 13 lbs weight gain youve experienced this past month is a result of this drink. Nothing stricks me as mass buidling. IN fact I ahve more protein in a single serving of one of my shakes. Your overall diet and trianing have done it for you, this shake, it just helped a littel. Give yourself some craedit!

You are probably right, though I should have added that I would often skip breakfast to get to work or class on time. So gaining weight might be attibutable to that (though I have been training my ass off). I have horrible eating habits, and it was nice to find something that tasted good and even lowered my cravings for sweets. Over a month later, and I am still not tired of it, either.
My next goal is find something for lunch

My diet is hard to peg because I eat almost constantly when I am at home. I got some ideas from Men's Health 6 week abs diet (has this been reviewed yet?).
Breakfast: the aforementioned smoothie, plus sometimes a banana or apple
Midmorning (pre workout): wrap (low carb-high fiber tortilla with peanut butter and turkey deli meat and mixed greens, or just deli meat and mustard, or just PB and butter), finish second serving of the smoothie
(Work out)
Lunch/post workout meal: chicken breast, refried beans, bean chips and hummus or salsa...sometimes I cheat and go to taco bell for a double decker taco
afternoon (in class): snack on almonds (either plain or the trader joe's honey and sesame seed almonds), chocolate milk, carrots, or GenSoy bar
dinner: very random, either another wrap, wheat english muffin with PB and butter, leftovers from chicken breast and beans made into a burrito...I hate to admit it, but this is where I struggle. Sometimes its sushi, which is fairly healthy, but about half the time I eat fast food. My saving grace is that I eat small meals...
snack: more almonds, bean chips, choco milk, etc...
I can't cook to save my life and my fiance is worse than I am...basically, if I didn't have the foreman grill I would be screwed. Besides cutting down (or out) fast food, any suggestions on altering what I am eating or the times in which I eat which meals? Budget and time are limited (in grad school).
