Default Rapid Weight Loss (60 lbs)-Timeframe

Everybody,

Over the past year I have really let myself go to hell physically and gained close to sixty pounds (I am six feet, 240 pounds)--total physical inactivity, horrendous diet, etc.

I want to get rid of it quickly and have found some good advice on this site. My question for all of you is what is the shortest amount of time that it may take to lose this 60 lbs if I really go all out in terms of diet and exercise (and maybe even occasional starvation). I am not worried about crashing at the end of this because prior to this past year I actually kept in top physical shape. Therefore, the lifestyle change has only come in the past year.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Welcome to EF to start. Secondly starvation is a really really bad way to go about losing weight, as your bodies metabolism slows down and counteracts what your trying to do. My suggestions, cardio, cardio, cardio, cardio... and if you have time... cardio. Next you gotta fix your diet, give the Velocity Diet a read as its got some good info on how to strip fat but keep muscle. Also start a gym routine, build some more lean muscle as I read somewhere (I could be wrong) that for 1 pound of lean muscle it will burn 20-50 calories a day. Add 10 pounds of lean muscle, thats 200-500 calories a day = 1400-3500 calories a week which is under half a pound to a pound extra. Just something to keep in mind.

And to actually answer you question, a time frame is really hard to give, not knowing your body type, genetics, and whatnot, since everyone loses/gains fat at a different rate. But as a guide the guy who did the velocity diet claimed a 16 pound loss in 4 weeks without loss of strength or muscle.
