Kind of stuck, lil help plz in diet
Hey everyone I've been on my own lil diet sinc around mid-january. I'm 22 and 6'3 and at the start i weighed 277lbs...now its mid april and i weigh 232lbs...seems like a lot and it prolly is BUT im kinda stuck now on losing the gut that i still have. I basically just been eating ALOT healthier, no crap and sweets ad shit anymore, just fruits, veggies, chicken, salads and stuff like that. I also watch my calorie intake each day, well i try to. I just recently started doing a lil bit of push-ups and sit-ups and will start the daily jog with a friend when she gets home from college in a few weeks...I just really want to know the general way to lose the tummy bc like ive said i keep losing the weight and i barely notice the tummy going down, barely if anything..just a lil advice would help, thnx a bunch!

In nutshell, to lose that last little bit of fat around your mid-section, you've got to continue doing what you've been doing all along. Not only do you have to continue doing what you've been doing, but you've also got to be much better at doing it. This means:
- Diet has to be perfect or near perfect every single day of the week.
- Workouts have to be much more intense than ever before.
- You must get plenty of rest since you are working out with much more intensity than before. If you don't, you'll overtrain.
The body fat around the mid-section is usually the first to come, and the last to go. Actually, it's almost impossible to get rid of all the fat in that section. Even bodybuilders at 3% body fat have a little bit of fat around their obliques.
To help create a visual representation of what you're dealing with here, I'll describe a couple analogies for you:
- Let's say you're about to run up a hill. It's about a 100-yard run to the top, and it's really steep at a 35-degree angle. When you make your attempt to run to the top of the hill, you'll find that the last 50 yards are much more difficult that the first 50 yards. You'll find that you have to push yourself much harder to complete that last stretch of 50 yards, than you did for the first 50 yards. That's what you're dealing with here. To lose that last little bit of body fat, you'll have to push yourself much harder than you did before because there is a lot at stake here. You have much less to win (lose body fat) and a lot more to lose (gain body fat) at this point right of the game right now.
- Look at a professional bodybuilder like Ronnie Coleman. He is near the biggest he'll ever be in his lifetime. Yet, he continues to work extremely hard in the gym just to keep the amount of muscle that he already has. When he was 20 years younger, that same amount of effort he put in the gym today would reward him with an extra 10 pounds of pure muscle in 6 months. But today, since he has already reaped much of the rewards that he has deserved, that same amount of effort only allows him to keep the muscle that he's already got. If Ronnie Coleman wanted to gain another 10 pounds of muscle right now, he would have to work even harder than ever before (and I don't think that's even possible, because he works so hard right now). For you, the amount of hard work you have to put yourself through right now will pale in comparision to what you will have to do in the future. What you did to go from 277 pounds to 232 pounds will be a walk in the park compared to what you will have to do to go from 232 pounds to 215 pounds.
Hope that helps you. By the way, what is your goal (target body weight)?

You're right, that IS what I meant. I guess I had another brain fart while I was writing that. Thanks for picking that up Hans. I'll edit it now.

That's a good weight to aim for at your height. Good luck with your endeavor, and I hope you reach your goal.
Yes, cardio will be your best weapon for losing that last bit of body fat. But diet will play an important role as well. Hopefully, you'll also lift with weights. Weightlifting is another good weapon for burning body fat. Working out with a partner is also a great motivation factor, especially if both people are aiming for the same goals and are willing to push each other to the limit to reach those goals. Hopefully, you and her will stick to a set schedule and not flake out on each other. Usually, if one flakes out, the other will follow.
