Eating out everyday....but what is healthy??
Hi,
I work around a heavily populated area, but very few shops sell anything remotely healthy. I start work around 7am n finish at 9pm. Due to my long hours, my metabolism has shot right down and i have put weight on, roughly 2 stones over weight and havnt done anything about it for a year. My cardio level has gone down the drain. I cant run on a treadmill at full speed for more than a minute even with jogging, i can barely job for 2 minutes. I can only work out on week ends for an hour before i end up going work again.
I aint sure what i should be eating, and i always eat from out side because all my mates do, but they hav extremely flexible times so they can go gym willingly at any time.
Lately, these are the kind of meals i been having:
Morning - Branflakes or Crunchy Nut cornflakes with Soya Al Pro milk.
Afternoons(at work) - Can vary from any of the following:
- Dominos Pizza - 8 Slice(not very big) with the following toppings -- Sundried tomato and garlic sauce, mozzarella cheese, onions, mushrooms, green peppers, herbs
or....
Jacket Potato + Tuna(in mayo) + beans/cheese
or...
Chicken Tikka In Naan
The menus are quite limited, and sometimes i tend to run low on cash, so sometimes, in exchange for a chicken tikka in naan(£4.50), i get a burger n chips with a drink (£2.50).
Any of those foods will keep me going without starvation until 8pm.
When i go home, i eat cornflakes with soya milk again.
Even with this cycle, i put on weight. I hav a good source of water to so water aint a problem.
Help?

First, you need to start bringing your own food to work. Eating healthy is cheaper than eating out in most cases. Lean meat, veggies, and keep the complex carbs to a minimum.
2nd) If you are having trouble getting to the gym, start walking in the evening as a substitute for the corn flakes. The shape you are describing yourself in actually has me concerned.
3rd) If you have no othe choice to eat out, get a salad, or go for the hamburger patty without the chips ( I assume you mean a fried potato of some sort) and without the bun and ketchup.
I have a limited amount of time as I'm at lunch but others will weigh in here-I'm sure.

well those 8 slices of dominos dont do you any good ecspecially if you have a job that requires very little activity wich you didnt mention...... all the fat and carbs at lunch and if your sitting behind a desk arent good for you. now i can see if you work construction heavy labor then those 8 slices wont hurt but for the majority of jobs thats way to many calories only to go sit down after lunch. as bouncer said pack a lunch!
walk to work or bike ride if feasable. the main thing is diet and more cardio need to be stepped up. without more cardio even just a brisk walk in morning and evening will benefit you tremendously. good luck. step up the cardio!

Now I am the last person you will find at the gym, but I do eat properly. I sit at a desk all day long and I have found that snacking on certain vegtables during the day along with a home made lunch helps me maintain my weight. Due to the lack of movement stay away from the heavy carbs.
Instead of going out for lunch bring your lunch then take a walk after your done eating. I guess the most important thing is don't use lack of time as an excuse but use the time you have to your advantage.
I know this is weird but some times I go to the bathroom and use the counter to do some push ups. I find this wakes my body up a little and helps me get a little exercise during the day.
Good luck!

You should also try breaking down the meals... it's best to have 5 small meals rather than 3 big ones... at the rate your body is burning calories it's not burning most of them because you are packing it down with too many calories... and inturn converting them to fat... so you have to keep refueling your body little by little. You should definitely start looking at healthier meals.. pizza is NOT healthy... no matter if it has veggies on it... cheese has a lot of fat and so does the dough; stick to low-fat meals when shopping at the grocery stores (read the labels!!) and if eating out go for the whole grains, veggies, fruits and lean meats. Hope I could help! Good luck!

I don`t think that cornflackes and pizza are good for you. Eat more vegetables and meat instead of potato.

I agree with brining your own food to work. That pizza isn't helping you at all, especially when one piece probably contains enough calories for a couple of smaller meals.
Multiple meals consisting of proteins, fruits/veggies, and carbs/fats. You said water is no problem, so that's easy.
Lots of veggies and fruits always help fight hunger. Eat something full of fiber and drink lots of water. Eat every couple of hours.

yeah dude that sounds real wierd...threadstarter, i dont recommend you doing that...i dont think it will help much!
anyway one quick and easy way to improve your diet is at night dont eat those corn flakes...the carbs will just sit in you when you sleep and store as fat...not a good thing
instead replace that with some chicken or beef and veggies (i do canned corn or green beans)... got a george forman grille for christmas so making that meal is as simple as plugging it in and slapping the meat on there.
i can picture me being in your shoes tho. right now im a college student but when i graduate in May and start working as an accountant in August i will shortly have your lifestyle... work from 8-7 or 8, having no life, you know?
just try and make the most of your time on the weekends i guess...i dont know what some of you are saying about go for a walk on lunch... if your like me i dont think walking in a business suit is much fun or comfortable.
oh and go out and buy yourself a box of protein bars...the low sugar detour bars are great. 32g of protein and taste is awesome, that should be a quick fix for one of your meals....now you gotta work on the other 4

I've always had success eating low-carb (not no carb) meals 5 times a day. Keep you rmotor running, so to speak.
