Christmas Season Diet Hell
Hows everyone else dealing with the vast amounts of candy and baking being pushed on us? It's really tough. You want to eat healthy but the stuff is so good and people take it as an insult if you wont eat their baking or the sweet gift they gave you. Its a lot like "you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't"

I enjoy the season as much as possible, a cookie here or there doesn't hurt that much as long as you don't go overboard. I would rather do alittle more cardio than pass on some of this season's goodies

I have trouble doing cardio in the winter. -25 degrees celcius isn't fun to be outside, don't have a treadmill at home and hate doing it at the gym.

I balance it, but I do have binge or cheat days, then days where I want to eat clean because of it. I baked 5 things this year, you bet your fanny I enjoyed some of my hard work.

I've given up fighting it, have a gut now and I'm ok with that. The extra fat (or is it calories) seem to actually bolster my immune system and so I can work out more.

The way I dealt with it was by joining a fat bet. You can see my blog (hint hint) for more info.
I went into totally assuming I was going to have about 5 bad days. Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, and maybe a night or two out with the wife. Even on those days though I watch the food and just tend to drink more. Had a corporate luncheon but that was pretty lame and I had no problem not eating there. The co-workers were in awe. I love how some people have no friggin discipline.
Then again I am a former Marine and it is easy for me. Now if I just put that much discpline and hard work into my career I would be a friggin CEO by now.

You can practice portion control without offending anyone, and use this as a chance to be able to get stronger in the gym by lifting heavier weights than ever before

The people I work with know that I'm pretty strict with my food - and I'm generally well-liked - so there doesn't tend to be too much of a problem. But for this Christmas season I cut out all (yep - all: cookies, alcohol, fudge, etc.) refined carbs just to remove the temptation. I hate working out in the beginning of January due to the influx of New Year's Resolutions clogging up every square foot in the gym, so I figured I'd just do some clean livin' for a month or so.
My entire Xmas list of sweets:
Boss's wife's made a cake (she's not a baker, and I'm on aforementioned diet, so that was our present to each other) - 1 slice
Cinnamon roll Xmas morning w/ family - 1 roll
The trick is to just keep ordering a big steak at every dinner, and a mixed fruit dessert - you'll slip under most people's radar, and if you don't, well, what the hell.
