According to Wikipedia it's a fruit from the same family as the guava (it's actually also known as Pineapple Guava or Guavasteen) but I have no idea if the taste is similar.
It originates from South America.

This fruit is usually added to salads or desserts. It is also grown in New Zealand and in the United States, in California and Florida. It is a sweet fruit. Its taste is similar to a combination of banana, strawberry, guava and pineapple.
