Atkins Diet?
I need to loose atleast 150 lbs and have seriously been considering the Atkins lifestyle. I know that there are many misconceptions (such as people thinking that it is no carb or extremely low carb all the time).
Does anybody know how much of the weight lost is fat? Has anybody ever looked into this? I can't afford surgery and this may seem my best option.

Since "there are many misconceptions" maybe you can post your intended diet so we may offer better feedback. Also, are you participating in any type of exercise program, either cardio or weight training?
I don't really understand your questions "Does anybody know how much of the weight lost is fat? Has anybody ever looked into this?" Can you be more specific? Are you asking about the composition of weight loss such as how much is water, fat, muscle, etc? If this is so, it really just depends on the individual and how the weight is lost. For example, much of one's initial weight loss might be water weight.

as toons mentioned we do need more info. and as far as ive heard about the atkins diet you do lose mainly water weight in tthe beginning. diet is #1, then cardio. you really need to clean up the diet and get rid of the junk that made you 150lbs overweight. there is no magic pill. to accomplish what you want you need to clean up the diet get rid of all junk food and eat healthy. eat your basic requirments needed in the meat group and use veggies as filler from that point out if still hungry. you can eat as much green veggies you want and cant go wrong there. start with some cardio if you havent allready. even just brisk walks for a starter.
post more info and we can definitely help out with suggestions.

Well here is my opinion. I really don't think that people on the Aktin's diet lose weight and maintain it off. It is really a carb restrictive diet. Why go the "Aktin's lifestyle"? You should go with permanent lifestyle changes.
I have known people that have done the aktin's diet, and they gained the weight all back once they stopped. Also too much protein is not good for the kidneys and can cause problems later on.
Here is what I have done when I was a big guy.
Diet Suggestion:
Eat your carbs early in the morning, since your body will burn them off during the day. Restrict your carb intake in the evenings (fresh veggies only - the greener the better!)
Watch your caloric intake, to lose weight/ fat, you have to consume less then the amount of calories you burn. Cut down on your sodium intake, and drink a lot of water. Water is your NEW found friend! Cut out the sodas, juices, etc. Also big thing is try not to eat late at night, 8/9pm cut off time!
Weight and Exercise Suggestions:
If you haven't been very active at all, I would suggest start with walking, jogging, or a recumbant/ exercise bike. Start off with light to moderate level intervals for about 30 mins - 1 hour. As the intervals for difficulty become easier change it up.
Example of difficulty for cardio:
- Brisk walk around for 30 minutes, as this becomes easier to an hour; then start jogging, as jogging gets easier start running. The worse thing you can do is start off too hard and then injure yourself.
Do weight training, lift light/ moderate weights with higher repititions for toning, do not do anything that makes you uncomfortable.
Good luck.
