Hunger pangs
So, here's the scoop. I *USE* to be able to eat, not gain, etc. use to be able to... wait for all the cringing... go through a large pizza on my own, and not be full. That's changed sometime in the 18 months, where as now a serving of brown rice, chicken, and mixed veggies *can* make me unfomfortably full...
...here's where I don't follow...
About 3-4 hours later, I'm usually hungry (I know, eat right?), but more recently, I've been getting hunger pangs - like someone hit me in the stomach, or feeling like I'm going to be sick due to lack of food...
...anyone have any insight?
-Dave

I used to have problems like that and went to the doctor and they said nothing. I think for me it had to do with eating poorly and that I was very stressed. It late went away.
My suggestion would be to go to a Naturopathic Doctor. you can find one here: Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors
I've gone and they offer a lot of suggestions that work very well without making you take a whole bunch of artificial drugs.

so wait, you went from consuming 2000 - 3000 calories in 1 single whole pizza meal to probably 500-600 with the chicken rice and greens and you are wondering why you are hungry?
The fat and grease alone should keep you full for most of the day!!

My suggestion would be to space the meals at 2 hour intervals thru the day that would mean 6-7 meals. But lose the idea of a sit down, a bar every two hours , some nuts and a yogurt, whole fruit and some cheese. Lots of ways to spread it over time. . .

No, I'm not hungry after, I'm actually quite full. But after 3-4 hours, I've got the "hunger pangs" as described.

Hmmmm........are you drinking enough water to keep your gastro-intestinal track irrigated?
You should be drinking at least 2L of H2O a day. I myself, if not drinking enough of the good stuff, get 'pangs' as you describe above......drink more water, see if that helps.
Also, as for hunger/malaise.....could be your blood sugar dropping. DO EAT, but accompany with water.
Eating at 2-3hr intervals does increase our metabolism, and if you try to stretch it out longer or for whatever reason cannot stoke your furnace in a timely fashion you will most likely experience what is known as a sugar drop.

It's entirely possible that I'm not keeping myself hydrated enough. I don't drink much throughout the day (in process of changing due to shift in activity).
DO EAT, but accompany with water.
I was under the, possibly mistaken, impression that food and excess liquid should not be consumed at the same "sitting" for the plain and simple fact, the liquid throws off the pH balance in your stomach, and consequently; makes it harder for your stomach to digest. Can anyone confirm/deny that?

You're feeling fuller now because those mixed veggies and brown rice have fiber. Eating lots of fiber in one sitting will make you feel full sooner than just eating processed carbohydrates.
The hunger pangs, I'm not sure what that's about either. Maybe your body is upset about something you're eating/drinking. Or it could be that you're not feeding your body quite as often as it would like to be fed, so your stomach growls and releases acids which can feel painful at times. Talk to your doctor about it.

Are you drinking enough water? My stomach has shrank down over the years as well. I no longer can do large "family dinners" like I used to. Probably from you not even noticing that your eating schedule has changed, maybe due to your work schedule, your stomach no longer needs to be stuffed full and the foods that your eating are digested so efficiently that your body is saying give me more of the good stuff..thus hunger pains. Hope this helps!

thats exactly what im saying. You claim you were eating meals similar to consuming an entire 2000+ calorie pizza, but now you are eating 500-600 calorie meals. Like insex said, the greens and rice have fiber to help keep you full, the 80z + of meat will also help that. Your body will digest that food in 3 hours so you are ready to eat again. That is why you are hungry. The pain or pang as you call it, is probably due to the fact that you were consuming so much crap processed greasy food for who knows how long, and now you giving it 1500 calories less per meal. It should pass if you keep eating like that every 2-3 hours, keep pleanty of water on hand.
If it doesnt, then you are eating something you may have an allergic reaction to.

the ph balance your refering to, youd need several gallons a day to screw up any digestion probs. theres nothing wrong with a liter per meal.
