So, about those carbs...
...anyone have any tips on how to cut (most) of them from my diet? It's no so much i want to cut them out to a great extent, more like how do you get over the "argh... want... carbs!" psuedo-addiction?
Any help would be awesome!
-Dave

Here's my ideas...
Train your body to get used to carbs low on the glycemic index. Whole grains, veggies, beans, etc.
Eat 6-7 small meals a day.
Get lots of cals from protein and good fats (nuts, fish oil, flax seed oil (Udo's Oil is great)
Drink lots of water to help you feel more full.

Already grazing / eating smaller meals throughout the day. Unfortunately, nuts aren't a viable option for me due to allergies and whatnot.

are you talking carbs in general, or sweets? b/c if it's sweets, just go cold turkey.

No, carbs in general. I have trouble with sugary things. I did go cold turkey on that, and pop... mouth/throat/stomach go "...what's this stuff, and why are you feeding it to me... water. now!"
Rice and pasta... both are tasty!

Like toonces said basically you're gonna have to train yourself to eat the brown rice instead of the white stuff...quinoa is an excellent rice alternative as well since it is a complete source of protein as well.....sweets, well stay away as much as is possible...for some reason men have a harder time of this than women....believe it or not, lol! Pastas...the best pasta (if you're gonna eat it at all) is Barilla Plus....it is a multigrain pasta and contains 17g protein per 100g serving and 28% of DV for omega 3's.....it's a great pasta, I use it for my pasta cheats and don't feel so 'bad' about it......Can be found at Costco in 3pks.
Too bad about the nut allergies.....are you able to take flax seed oil at all or is this still considered a nut as well? If not, what about a high end evoo? I think Udo's is plant sourced, but don't quote me.....
Just remember that not all carbs are bad.....we NEED carbs to survive just as we need fats. However it's choosing the good carbs/fats over the evil ones that'll make the differences.

around 8 to 10g of glutamine will replenish your glycogen stores after a workout without carbohydrates

Go and get a copy of the South Beach Diet, or subscribe online. You go through a couple of weeks on very low carbs, and then you reintroduce lower glycemic carbs over time. I've dropped over 60 pounds lately with this approach. Stay away from bread, rice, fruit, potatoes, flour and sugar.
Here's a typical day for me:
( I have reintroduced a thin slice of rye bread ( lower glycemic) per day.
Meal 1) 2 poached eggs, and turkey with swiss over rye toast.
Meal 2) Chef or Caesar salad-no croutons.
Meal 3) Cheese, or chicken
Meall 4) Beef, Chicken, or turkey, or fish with a green veg like asparagus, Brussels sprouts, green beans, or a salad.
Drink lots of water. Also include green tea. Stay away from diet soda, which stimulates the appetite for carbs. Aspartame is nasty stuff anyway.
Get lots of seasonings. The key to doing this is to get creative and bring up the flavor. I hit a restaurant for lunch today, and had a California omelet with smoked turkey, bacon, onion and avocado. I had them hold the hollandaise sauce. It was fantastic.

Great advice in this thread. I will echo a couple of points...
I did get over the lack of carbs after a week or so. I got to where I honestly didn't really mind. And that's from a self-proclaimed "carb whore"!
Def look into the Udo's Oil and see if you can have any of it. It's a great source of energy in a low/no carb diet.
Oh, and I might need to try one of Bouncer's omelets....YUM!
