Default Compartment pressure syndrome

I was told I have compartment pressure sydnrome in both of my legs. I'm not sure how it happened but there was a period of time where I was training and playing five games a week of basketball, soccer and touch football. I was also doing one of those intense jumping programs to improve my vertical leap. I think my legs were just overworked. The specialist recommended rest, massage and ice as a way to reduce the pressure, and if that didn't work, then surgery was the next option.

My questions is whether many people overcome the problem without surgery and how likely the problem is to reoccur? At the moment I'm just putting up with the condition and icing my legs after every game. But I've lost some speed and endurance. I can't run on hard surfaces and my legs can't manage long distances without really swelling up.

If some of you could share your experiences that would be great. I'm wondering whether surgery would be worth it.
