i was just about to start a thread about vaulting here myself. but i guess i may as well post in here! I've been doing it for about 2(2 seasons) years now.
hi, i too am a vaulter in the spring. my personal best as of right now is 11.6. as for some beginer tips, i would say there are a few basics to get down.
*im not really sure what you've been told or shown, so some of this may seem reduntant*
1. Focus alot on the Pole plant at first, without a good plant, nothing else will really result. do this by getting your "steps"(i assume your coach has told you about this) and run to the box, and plant, but dont really try to go over anything, just ride the pole into the box, making sure to keep your right knee high, and left leg straight down. After you master this(maybe up to 2 days??) you can work on some more "force" and form for going higher.
2. Run fast. no joke, its pretty much directly related, you need to go fast to go high. the faster and harder you run, the more chance for some pole bend.
i dunno, i guess thats a good start for ya. any questions feel free to ask. I've been doing 11.6, but hopefully tommorow i'll hit at least 12' in competition.
