Online Computer Gamers
I figured I'd start a thread on here to find out who here at EF are "cyberathletes," lol.
I'm a 23 year old male, in college now. I just retired from football, which I did for 12 years. I am an amateur bodybuilder now, and have one contest under my belt so far (April, 2006).
Aside from bodybuilding, I am also competitive in online computer games. Instead of watching endless hours of TV, I prefer to kill time competing in online touraments, clan matches, and ladder matches. I am a hardcore FPS (first person shooter) fan. The games I currently play are Quake 3 Arena (for the past 7 years), Quake 4, and a little bit of Counter-Strike: Source. Although I am competitive, I am just a amateur and am no where near as good as professional gamers like Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel. Since I view online competitive gaming as just a hobby, I don't consider "cyberathletes" as actual athletes as well. I just play games for the fun of it, since I can't lift weights all day long, literally.
I'm just trying to broaden the horizon of the Other Sports section here at EF. I don't actually consider online gaming a sport, just a hobby. But if there are any others out there who are competitive online gamers like me, I'd like to gain some insight on what games you play, your configurations, what you do or eat to prepare for important matches, ect.

Used play Quake arena but that was ages ago. dunno just fell out of it.

I used to spent countless hours playing CS and Warcraft...i guess that phase got out of me, but I'm getting back into it. As for now, I've been playing alot of console based games. They're really coming out with good titles.

Counter-Strike all the way for me, I've been playing since 2000 or so and have competed a little bit in the Cyberathlete Amateur League but I'm not in a clan anymore and am mostly playing it for fun every now and then
I tried Source but it really is not as good as CS as far as gameplay is concerned. Yes Source's graphics are far better, but graphics are only like the cover of a book, it might attract you to open the book but what matters in the end is what's inside, or the gameplay in the case of a video game. So Insex, seeing as you play Quake 3, it would seem graphics don't matter much to you, so I highly suggest you dump Source for CS !

Check out this game Warrock.net its a free online war game like bf2, there are some bugs if you get unbearable lag just reboot your computer (I find it fixes it).
When you start you get 30,000 dinars wepons to look at getting are the lock on ground to air missle launcher, ak-47 or the scoped rifle, get the brown sniper rifle not the semi-auto one.
Eventually they are going to start selling guns for hours of play there will be a special gun in the buy list, this will help the server get rid of the somewhat lag you might find online.
I like F.E.A.R. and this atm.

The Command and Conquer series are still the greatest strategy games yet. I can never get tired of it.

I'm sorry but no strategy game ever came (and probably will ever come) close to being as good as StarCraft. This game was released something like 9 years ago and it's still played by thousands of people, especially in Korea where it's like their national sport.
What makes it so good is the perfect gameplay, the fast pace of the game, the diversity of the strategies and how different the 3 races are while still being very well balanced.

I agree, I forgot about Starcraft and the games that Blizzard Ent. develops. They're all great games even though they only had a few titles under the belt. I still play Starcraft every now and then, but I can never get sick of it. Challenging people on battle.net is fun.

I play dota (WC3), an alternative version of CS IMO, just that u have more skills to use. Otherwise the back stabbing, camping or the gayz style of playing(for me actually) is the same.
First Blood!!!

I cant stop playing StarCraft. I have been playing it since it came out and like Hans said its just so damn good. I think the reason that they havent come out with a SC2 is because they dont want to mess up what they have already perfected.

If you like command and Conquer try Earth 2160. It's 3D you can pan and zoom very cool.
Battlefield is one of my all time favorites. But right now I got bit by the WOW bug bad. That game is scary addictive.
