Stupid NFL television rules
I won't be able to see the Steelers vs Bengals game because I live in an area where my CBS network is forced to air the exciting Ravens v Dolphins matchup.
Sorry but I just had to vent.
Is anyone else in a similar situation where they live?

I live in what the NFL calls the Ravens "secondary market" so my local CBS station MUST air their away games.
At least my Steelers whooped some Bengal @$$.
apologies to any of my Ohio friends who may or may not be Bengal fans... if it is any consolation, I will root for the Browns to beat the Redskins

Man, the Steelers are doing so much better than i Expected, and i couldn't Be Happier. They showed the cardinals game out here, but they had technical difficulties and aired half the Steelers Game. Every now and then We get lucky out here and get to see a Steelers Game. This season has been pretty good thus far Two Sunday night appearances and a Monday night game for the Stillers! And F da Bungles!!!!

I agree with you on that--I live in Arkansas and I'm a big fan of the CHIEFS. Never get to see them play as much. Tv always showing the Cowboys.

That's the nice thing about living in Wisconsin, It's all Packer's all the time. It's such a ratings natural here that a local station will always buy extra right's to show it. Even when the Pack plays on the thursday night nfl strangle hold games, some one here will pay and air it free. God Bless America!!!!

I can't justify paying their high charge for the sake of 3 or 4 games. It only happens a few times a year and I have a little hissy fit but then I move on. Considering how they romped this week, maybe I'm better off not seeing their games.

There are 2 main carriers of NFL games during the day in Chicago (and I'm assuming nationwide), Fox and CBS. NBC gets the Sunday night game and ESPN gets MNF.
I could never understand why there's always like 10 games going on at the noon (central) time slot, yet on some random weeks you can find that not BOTH of CBS and FOX are broadcasting games. And when not showing games, it's always something not as "in demand" playing, like an infomercial for a new ab machine or a show about guys fixing up trucks.
I thought that with the popularity of the NFL that networks can make more money on a Sunday afternoon showing ANY football game over just about anything else someone would watch on a slow Sunday afternoon.
Anyone know why this is?

ballfan, it all comes down to the contracts that the two companies signed with the NFL. For some stupid reason, both networks agreed that they would switch off on the games that got televised. Fox airs the NFC games and CBS airs the AFC games (interconference games are determined by the road team {don't ask me why, cuz it makes no sense}). Back and forth they go from I believe week 8 (though it might be week 6), and the people who don't have Sunday Ticket on Directv are the losers in the deal.

I got one for ya,I am a niners fan and the reason I get Sunday Ticket from Direct TV
is to watch the niners and other games, heres the sticky payton manning and his
brother eli get on direct TV and say you can get all the games, which is a lie because
if the game is blacked out,you don't get it,not in my area anyways, the other week
The Redskins and the Cowboys were blacked out in my area one was a 1 oclock
game the other a 4 o clock game, plus I don't get nbc so I never get to see the 8
o clock games, when I call direct TV all they do is give me some mumbo jumbo we
are sorry.and I say you advertise that I GET ALL THE GAMES ,again I get the 'sir my
hands are tied and I can't do anything about it,when I ask to speak to your super-
visor they put me on hold and nobody comes to the phone ,so I hang up.You can
bet your bottom dollar after this season I am going back to cable,It cost me about
300.00 extra dollars a year which is not a lot of money for watching the team you
like but The Sunday Ticket does not give you all the games plain and simple..........

That doesn't make much sense. I have Sunday Ticket and even games that are blacked out (Raiders beating the Eagles this weekend for example) was televised. That game was fun to watch btw as my Seahawks were asleep at the wheel against the Cards.

Despite your possible distaste for the evil businesses, you are absolutely wrong. It's NFL broadcasting rules. The CBS affiliate in my area gets bombarded with complaints whenever they televise a Ravens game rather than the Steelers. Because of the NFL rules, in certain situations, that channel MUST show the Ravens games because we are geographically closer to Baltimore than Pittsburgh.
