Default Herniated disks and a routine

I had an accident about a year ago that left me with 3 herniated disks in my lower back. Since then I haven't had much success lifting. Now after a year I am able to run on the treadmil for a maximum of 10 minutes and work with light weights for no more than 30 minutes. I'm not looking to return to my old routine, seems unrealistic at this point. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I feel your pain.....I had a disk herniation L4/L5 about 4 years ago. I'm pretty much back to full strength BUT I still have a fair amount low back pain (mostly in the AM).

With 3 herniated disks, be patient! I'm finally seeing results after 3-4 years of pretty bad pain. That's the frustrating part of my back situation......the strength came back fast, the pain is the kicker.

The only real advice my doctor kept telling me was: "to stay active"

Not really what I wanted to hear but........

PM me if you have any specific questions.

Good luck,

d

Pain problem started in my neck in 1987 after I was rear ended in a auto accident.
I was treated for three months for a severe strain before I requested that the Dr. send me for a CT SCAN. Turned out that i had a herniated disc at C4-5 with the cusp at the posterior side broken off and rubbing on the nerve for the right arm. Subsequently had to have surgery and a fusion to correct the problem. Went to therapy three times a week for six months. The surgery helped with the excruciating pain, but it left behind scar tissue that would take years to heal. I always wondered why the pain was worse in the morning. Finally asked the Doctor on a visit for follow up. Reason being that the muscles are used during the day time and hopefully stretched. But at night, it is just the opposite, they tend to tighten up and cause the pain when you get up in the morning. Stretching was the most recommended course of therapy. But you have to be very careful not to over do it. Only you know your body. When it starts to hurt, continue for a few minutes, then stop.
