Default Elbows

I've had really boney elbows since I can remember. The other day I was told that certain ranges of motion with weights can put stress on the elbows and actually make the elbow knob stick out more from the arms, for example doing an arm curl and lifting the weight too high. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this before? Is there any way to correct it or is it like that forever?
