I broke my scaphoid years ago, twice......one year apart. You could be in for a rough ride so be aware and be careful. After it healed the first time, I was back like it never happened (playing football). Well, I broke the damn thing again and it took 12 weeks to heal.

That bone (the scaphoid) receives very poor blood circulation, so it may or may not heal in 6 weeks. Even if the x-rays show it's healed, REALLY take it easy for another couple months. I've also heard of the bone not healing at all in some cases........then they go with the bone graft.

Don't want to scare you, but just be careful and get educated. My information is a bit old, as I broke mine back in the late eighties........there may be many improvements in treatment......I had a "bone stimulator" built into my fiberglass cast.

Today it feels fine, I only lost slight range of motion (bending my wrist back).

Good luck...

Thumbs down Scaphoid fractures suck

The scaphoid is a peanut-shaped bone that only has good blood supply to one end of it. If you fracture it cleanly in two, and it is non-displaced...it should heal in 8-12 weeks if completely immobilized. That means you cannot do jack with that hand. I hope it is your non-dominant side!
Do you have a cast that goes above the elbow?
If it were displaced, I imagine an orthopaedist would have suggested pinning it by now.
At any rate, if you bugger it up, cut the cast off, and dont let it heal properly (where the bone grows back together) you might be facing more extensive surgery and bone grafting as Boreal mentioned above.
Of all the bones in the hand and wrist you could fracture, the scaphoid is the worst...sorry, mate...no footy for you for awhile
