Default AC joint separation

I separated my shoulder while playing rugby about 10 weeks ago. It took about 2 weeks before I could play again. I thought it was healed and I have been playing and lifting with it ever since. I was in the gym yesterday and I had just finished doing my incline bench press. I went to do the flat bench, and as I pushed to get the bar off the rack my shoulder poped again. This actually hurts more then when I originally hurt my shoulder. Do you think this is the same injury and what can I do to avoid this chronic problem. I was wondering if this is the same injury becasue an AC separation is caused by your shoulder being driven into the ground (which is what happened the first time I hurt my shoulder).

Question Degree of separation

That's a rotten injury. The acromion and clavicle are held together by 3 ligaments, pop one off : grade I separation...tear off another, it's a grade II separation...all 3? Well, that's an unstable extremely painful shoulder with visible deformity (grade III) that probably needs internal fixation....surgery.
There is a stabilizing brace that you will need, at any rate. It is like a combination of a sling / brace that will give the ligaments a chance to tack the bones back together where they should be....and you will probably have to wear it for a few weeks.
You need to see an orthopaedic surgeon right away.

AC joint seperation can occur in other instances as well, (not just been drivin to the ground).

Your best bet is to seek some medical advice from a professional.

You may have a sprain in the glenohumoral joint. You may have a subluxation. You may have tenosynoitis which you will hear due to crepitus.

Bottom line. Go see a doctor.
