Dislocated Shoulder Injury
Last night I dislocated my shoulder in a game (football). They were able to pop it back into place. The ER doctor said everything looked fine and to ice it but, one of the first things that went through my head is how the hell am i going to be able to lift. I thought to myself...I wont for a week but I was just wondering how long does it take for me to get back in the game and to start lifting. It really doesnt hurt at all....its just sore...like after a hard shoulder lift.
Please help!

If I were you I would use your own descretion. IF your feel that you can lift, then go for it.
I had a shoulder injury over the summer (I dont know what it was), but it took a month off of lifting for it to fully recover.
But if it was just dislocated then it should be fine, I mean it just came out of the socket and didnt cause any tissue or muscle damage.
Id try lifting some lighter weights for a set or 2 and see how your body reacts.
If its ok, then just workout like normal. If not, then consult your doctor or just take some time off lifting.
Goodluck!

Make sure you get all of the proper PT done on the shoulder. I regret heavily not having done that with a shoulder separation that I got in HS. Once it heals and the inflammation goes down, you will be able to slowly build it back up, though you may have to incorporate rotator cuff exercises into your normal lifting routine in order to stabilize the shoulder properly

personally i would work with range of motion excercises first then light strengthening before going heavy again. just be patient and take your time and dont rush back into lifting heavy or chances will be pretty high of reinjury or more serious injury. in order for it to have been dislocated you had to of stretched things out and possible made small tears and rushing into things will be a problem.

Thank you for your replies. There was no torn muscle or tendon damage and the rotator cuff seems stable and ok. I dont know if that dictates any responses but I will have our team trainer look at again and ask her for excercises. Thanks.
