massage
I had been having terrible neck and shoulder pain for years, so I went to my cousin (she is a massage theropist) and she worked the area where my pecs meet my shoulders. OH GOD did that hurt, she said all the years of lifting had made the muscle really tight and not lay right. When she was done doin that the pain in my neck went away, apparently my chest was putting a strain on my neck muscles as well. That night my shoulders "popped" and man do they feel better, they also feel like they are sitting back further. I just thought I would pass this on in case anyone else is having shoulder pain, might be worth a trip to a massage theropist.

BIG TIME! I had the exact same problem and my massage gal worked on my shoulders for a good 20 minutes and boom... the pain was gone. I need to get another one but I have slowly been working my shoulders a little different. Being doing a lot of rotar cuff and back part of the shoulder muscle exercise and it has really helped. It is not the rotar cuff that is the problem but that gets really tight. I agree though a massage is the best. Even the chiropracter couldn't help me. He fixed everything else but not the shoulder.

I used to be a massage therapist. It's good to see some of the benefits listed here. I'll also tell you a little secret - STRETCH! Many of the same soft tissue benefits of massage can be obtained by stretching before, during and after lifting. I try to stretch before bed because it relaxes the muscles and can really help one fall asleep. Do moderate static stretches, not the ballistic kind I see so many doing in the gym.
