Torn rotator cuff
I need some help with an old injury, I tore my upper bicep when I was younger and combine that with a torn rotator cuff, and that makes for a painful shoulder. The bicep cannot be repaired due to the amount of time since the tear, the rotator cuff is the bigger problem, my shoulder hurts like hell on some days and nothing on other days. Any suggestions on strengthening the the muscles of the rotator would be greatly appreciated

If you develop your scapular muscles, rotator imbalances will go away/be lessened. But if it's torn and need surgery, then rehab probably won't help too much.

lineman, cool what structures do you work? I used to do that.
try lying on your side and with a lite dumbell, place your elbow on your hip and lift your forearm to parallel, do it about 15 times per arm. How I decribed it good enough. Also take a ball like a volleyball and with your arm stretched out place the ball against a wall and trace the alphbet with the ball. this should help somewhat. I used it when I hurt my rotator cuff, there are also some rubberband exercise you can look up.

Bingo! Surgery may be in your future. It sounds like you lived up to your tag name to the fullest though. My best advice...go see a doctor and find out how badly it's torn because there's no use in making it worse if it's incapable of getting any better. Good luck my friend.

To the original poster, I used to be in the same boat as you. I slightly tore my rotator cuff back during high school football, so I know the pain you're feeling.
To rehabilitate your rotator cuff, you need to strengthen it by performing specific exercises for your rotator cuff. Other than that, consult with your doctor on what you should and should not be doing.
In the meantime, here are some rotator cuff exercises you might want to try:

another point needed to get across 2 you is if its tore dont wait too long deciding if your gonna have surgery to have it repaired. 4 instance if its torn from the bone the docs only have so long to work with it b-4 it deteriorates 2 much.

Thanks to all for the GREAT information, lucky for me the tear is partial but it happened when I was much younger so surgery is not an option, strength training is my best option and where better to ask about strength training than here. To my Lineman brother Justaguy, if it is in the air or on the ground not much I have not either put a gaff in or a shovel
