I can't take it anymore!!
Ok for about a little over a month now (maybe even two months) I try to do the leg press or squats and I feel a pain on the top of my thigh and sometimes on the side of my leg... here is a picture (lol at my drawing skills)
it's a sharp "hot" pain... I layed off of doing those type of exercises for that long and I went to try them again last night and it came back- should I go to the chiropractor or what kind of doctor should I go to? Does anyone have any tips or had this type of pain before?

the arrows you have shown is in the path of the cyatic nerve (lower arrow), but im not saying that is the problem but its a possibility. guessing with what infop youve provided did this develop from an exercise you done? if so it be strain associated. regardless a sharp pain is an indicator to get checked out wich you allready know by mentioning it. chiro or general pract should be adequate providing either one has a competent history.

... I wonder if you have a little muscle strain? Maybe you could try lighter wieghts for afew days? To kind of work it out. I've done that before with "phantom" pain and it seems to help....not always however.

I tried that too... I thought that fixed it but but the last set still starts hurting... I went down on my weight a lot since this happened... I haven't been able to break that point though on getting it back up there... last night it hurt just doing 6 reps on the leg press and I stopped when I felt the pain... it's a real bummer
Will all chiro's do that type of work... I dont' want to walk in like an idiot

Well from that pic and arrows it looks like you have pain in your Vastus Medialis and Vastus Lateralis area of your quad. This is normally common with triatheletes, putting too much strain on your quads.
Are some of the symptoms the following:
1. Walking is difficult
2. Sudden twinges/ spirts in pain in activities
3. Pressing down on the area, causes a little pain
4. Unable to fully bend the knee
5. Tightness in thigh area
Then it probably is just a Thigh Strain. Here is a list of things that you can do to help with the pain:
1. Apply Hot and Cold Therapy
2. Use of electric pulsation equipment (Dr. Ho massager)
3. Apply Cold Therapy while training, applying Hot Therapy won't help it will inflame more
4. If it has been over a month, might want to seek a sports specialist for rehab advice.
5. When not in training or physical activity wear a heating brace for more mobility.
I hope this helps.

I don't really have those symptoms besides the tightness... I've noticed my quad feels "numb" sometimes... but it doesn't hurt unless I'm actually doing the leg press or squats with weights...

That's good then. So maybe just some minor hot and cold therapy would help, and some simple massaging and stretching will do the trick.

if your insurance or pocketbook will allow it, id skip the chiro and the other quck family docs and go straight to a sports medicine clinic or doc. They will be able to help you and put you on a rehab program to keep your strength up and get back in the gym asap.

I disagree with the diagnoses so far, and I have to call it as iliotibial band syndrome. I am willing to bet good money on it.
Good article and references are here: Iliotibial band syndrome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is very treatable. Let us know how it goes!

ITB was exactly what i was thinking! pain is coming from the inflammation so ice will help. You need to stretch the ITB if you go to runningtimes web site and search ITB exercises they have some good pics
Deep massage although painful as hell will help loosen in off
So ice, ice, ice, stretch and massage

From what I'm reading it does seem to be the ITB. When I broke my femur I had pretty much the same symptoms in that area. I know if you go to a pharm they sell a band that you can wrap around that area and for me at least it seemed to help until I strengthened it back up. Try to use the stretching exercises from the below website. They also seem to help.
IT band Friction Syndrome

I would say to you bro your best bet and I mean the best deal you can do for yourself and anyone else who depends on you is to go see a good orthopedic Doctor and get a set of x-rays MRI or CT scan of your leg and knee joint because believe me once you lose enough mass in that area your headed for all types of joint problems and serious pain. I've lost so much mass that I have near zero control of my knee and have undergone 23 operations to repair the bone on bone cartlige ripping tendons tearing numerous injections to repair my knee from a car accident back in 95. Ask around your gym anyone who's had injuries or your medical doctor for a good Doctor.

Whatever the final diagnosis, it sounds nerve related so I'd say find a chiro who treats sports injuries. Just one more opinion to consider. And like cujo said, you do have a fine looking leg.

i will second the chiro recomendation just do to the fact they can tell wether your hips out of alignment and can make necessary adjustments to bring everything back into alignment. also a good physical therapist can do just about anything the chiro can do to. after all they are just as highly educated as a doctor and specialize in these natures. i see to physical therapists for my needs and they are just absolutely wonderfull 4 getting me back in the norm.

That's why most good chiros have a PT in their offices.

what amazes me is on all my ailments that have bugged me after explaining the prob to them they manage to go straight to the root of the problem and hit the muscle that is causing the prob. now thats education and understanding at work there! form personal experience i know a hip mis alignment can cause quite a bit of pain. usually one hip tucks upward trying to compensate a certain injury and that has a domino effect from top to bottom. if left unchecked for long you can experience mis alignment clear up to the cervical region to the knee even.
