Need Help
ok, not sure how it happened but: during my chest workout, i started out with dumbell bench and as soon as i brought the weights down i got a sharp pain that shot through my L deltoid though i still continued on with my session and my shoulder hurt throughout the whole chest exercises. the next day i worked on my shoulders and felt very little pain. can someone tell me whats going on and what exercises should/can i do for my chest without further pain?
thanks

You might have strained your rotator cuff.
If you don't warm them up before your chest exercises and shoulder exercises it can happen pretty easily.

you have 2 take into consideration also when utilizing dumbells it recruits more muscle fibers (stabilizers) then barbell alone and if you havent used dumbells a whole lot in your routine before this it may be a matter of improper form resulting in a strain such as thetrain suggested or stabilizer muscles. if dumbells are rather new to your chest routine pay critical attention to form, it will keep your ass out of trouble everytime. good form that is. if the weights 2 high to have good form lower it untill you get that part right and slowly progress from there. you will always be able 2 lift more straightbar then dumbell because your arms are locked in one range of motion instead of being able 2 wonder with the dumbells.

Honestly, no one will be able to give you a specific answer due to the fact that it could be several different things. Might be a muscle tear or strain, ligament tear or strain, tendon tear or strain or even something like a nerve impingement or other soft tissue strain.
Bottom line, rest it, ice it and see if it feels better after a few days. When you return to your exercises, go light at first. Make sure you warm up the area prior to doing exercises. STRETCH before, during and after all workouts! Use proper form to avoid future injuries. If you're not sure of proper form, do some research first to learn!
If it continues to bother you, have a doctor check it out. Best of luck!

Lay off it. If it hurts its because you strained something or worse. The best remedy is rest. Don't push it.
