It depends on what your knee problems are. If they're ligament problems then my post might help, if they're cartilage or bone problems then someone else might help.

I snapped my anterior cruciate and medial ligaments 14 years ago and, although the repair op was a great success, I still need to look after my joints properly. I was advised to do three things and they have helped immensely:

1. Learn how to stretch properly AND learn basic yoga suppleness techniques. This alone will help you with MA and certainly helped my ju-jitsu come along nicely!
2. Take glucosamine chondroitin for high doses for 3 months then cut back to a still high but maintenance dose. Not suitable if you have a shellfish allergy or intolerance. Takes about 3 months or so to start working as it's very, very slow absorption stuff.
3. Build up the muscle base around the knees. A big solid muscle bound knee might not be very agile but it's going to be significantly more resilient to further injury. Painful building it up but it seems to me to be one of the most durable muscle groups in needing little maintenance to keep strong.

You may want to add MSM and Vit C to the mix for a synergistic application. I've personally found the MSM (and I would imagine the Vit C to some extent) has really made a hugh difference in my knee pain, and as I mentioned in a thread I started: many other aesthetic benefits.

MSM and glucosamine ease joint pain...

MSM~The researchers also found that the combination treatment had a faster effect on pain and inflammation compared to glucosamine alone."

Vitamin C acts as a powerful antioxidant that "mops up" the free radicals that are produced during inflammation and joint damage. It also protects against infections that may trigger joint inflammation, and plays a vital role in the formation of collagen, which is necessary for joint health.

hi there

thanks for the responses

Not i haven't been to a doctor yet, I live in china and going to the doctor presents a few different problems

think it might be a ligament thing because,

-my knees crack and pop all the time
- if i cycle for a while i have difficulty straightening my leg, especially it the cycling machine doesn't allow me to fully straighten my leg during the exercise
- when i am tired or after hard work out, i have pain in my knees something akin to a nail being driven through my kneecap

i will try the exercises and treatments you suggested, thank you

FitnessStrengthTraining is not very well liked

My wife had knee surgery several months back and the doctor told her to use a recumbent bike - worked wonders. She was back to normal in about 6 weeks.
