Default Exercise induced chronic compartment syndrome

I was diagnosed with this yesterday. The ortho says the only way to get rid of it is surgery...which I don't quite believe.

Anybody ever have this?

I am familiar with compartment syndrome but not exercise induced cs. I would always recommend surgery as a LAST resort! One you're cut it's a done deal....it may work or it may not. You might try RICE - rest, ice, compression, elevation. I don't think it will aggravate the situation and if it works...

Do you have it in both legs? Did it come on suddenly or over time? Is it limiting you in any way?

It is possible to have compartment syndrome to be exercise induced, but it is very uncommon.

It is more common to see it as a result of trauma (like a car accident or as a result of impacts to the neck or shoulder, ala Football, wrestling or Rugby.)

I would look at deep tissue massage first to break up scar tissue and help get oxygenated blood in there to help it have a chance to heal. It may help with the neuro aspects as well and will for sure help clear out any stagnation. its similar to carpal tunnel in a sense but you have better space to work with hence better chances at other options before surgery.
