I have been in a long distance relationship for almost 6 months and as many of you stated accurately, "It sucks." The hardest part is not being able to see my girlfriend. We have gotten over this slightly by continually making plans to see each other. Though living 2000 miles apart puts a great toll on my bank account, she is worth spending that money on. We were forced into this situation because of school versus school locations. If everything works out correctly, I will move to be closer to her once she settles into a Ph. D. school and I am able to find a job near her.
I find the best thing is to not force talking to each other over the phone every night. Not only does that get boring because you don't have much to say everynight, but it also takes away from the quality time you need to spend out with friends. In this time there a numerous ways to communicate email, mail, postcards, flowers, gifts, text messaging, instant messaging. By using all those options not only do you keep thing interesting, but you keep from making each other bored with conversation. Emails can be great by writing a story of a funny event during the day.
To end as I began, true they do suck but what are you to do if you want to be with someone and this is your only option, until you can afford to move closer. Hope this helps any of you, and I hope I won't be eating my words in the next few months.
