It also depends. My wife is a teacher so during the school year I am lucky if I average once a week. Now when she is on breaks it is more like 2 or maybe 3 if I am really good! Or really bad, nudge nudge say no more say no more!

Age and where you are in the relationship factors on it too. When we were first dating we would go at it like 3x a day sometimes. Those days are long gone though! LOL!

So here's a request for clarification: if you have sex several times a night, are you calling that once? or multiple? What about if there's post-work, post-dinner, and pre-sleep sex? I'd argue that it's once in the first case, and 3 times in the second. Of course, I'm single right now, so it's kind of an academic discussion.

When dating (not living together), I'll generally see my gf 2-5 times a week, and say that we're having sex 4-5x on average - of course, my relationships rarely go 6 months+, so those averages are probably inflated versus what they'd be if I were a more long-term, stable type (you know, like a good pair of running shoes). But in that 4-5 average there's alot of variation. My favorite ex ("the one that got away," cry into beer, etc., etc.) was an MD, and our schedules might line up very poorly for a month or two at a time - so we'd be lucky to see each other more than twice a week, let alone sleep together. And sometimes - like case #2 - it's 3 times in a night, and that night isn't noteworthy for frequency.

But normal? Who knows. But the 4-5x a week hasn't seemed unordinary to any of the girls - of course, we're not living together, though. My opinion is that if it dropped below 3x a week it would show that there's some kind of underlying problem (not saying that kids are an underlying problem, mooshue )

I would dissagree that there is an underlying problem if its under 3x a week. When you've been together for a long time it will slow down. Kid's, age and career can take their toll. Trust me, you get into a long term relationship, you'll notice it.

My wife and I have sex about 4-5 times a week (Monday and Tuesday seem to be our 'off' nights for some reason). We are both healthy 38 yr olds with teenage children so we have plenty of alone time. We also get to go out a lot. We have a nice pub around the corner from our house. We go there, have a few drinks (not always alcoholic) and talk. Talking is the best foreplay. We go home and things go from there.

We too have been married 15 yrs. We had the kids when we were young and stupid so I guess we are re-living our youth now.

Yeah this is key! My wife and I have fairly younger kids we can't leave alone or trust anyone to leave them with so this takes a toll. When we do go out alone it is pretty much a foregone conclusion we are going to knock boots. We still enjoy one another's company and like to talk. Sometimes we just insult one another (big time foreplay at times) other times we just go out and make fun of other people. Sure mean spirited but it helps us bond.

Here's my 2cents:
1) When we first started dating my wife and l would have sex pretty much everytime we saw each other and could get alone. When we moved in together that dropped down a little just because we know we can get it any time we're in the mood. (I'm a guy so I'm always in the mood, but l don't mind going by her schedule.) Now we're married and l would say 2-4x a week is our average.

2) There is no normal. Some people go at it like rabbits (*coughplinycough*), while other space it out. l think in general the older the couple and the longer they have been together the less sex they have, though l'm sure there are plenty of exceptions.

Like many of you have said, it was alot more often when we first started dating.... pretty much everytime... then he moved in, we got engaged and now it's just on the weekends it seems...... I think it has hurt my ego a little bit, I've started to ask myself those... "is it me?" questions. I'd still like it to change but I guess that's "supposed to" happen when the relationship reaches that level in some relationships....?
