Running Shoes Check
Hi all, this is my first post in this section so here goes. Just wanted to take a scan of the running shoes people are using. I'll try an steer away from shoes used in sprint comp's instead I'd like to focus on the other side of it. Also a reasoning as to why
you chose that shoe. I've only been running reguarly for a year and a half now. Here me: Brooks Trance NXS : I'm a pronator, so I whacked in a 6deg incline sole. I tell you
something the shoe feels like a piece of luxury. I also picked up the newer NXR. It has the new e2 gel. I think they should make the shoe out this stuff. I have only run a few kays in the newer shoe and the coefficient feels like 1 !! even compared to the NXS. You really do notice the diffenece between these and say your walk around in runners that you may wear. The soles wears rapidly
though. Thanks to all those who reply. P.S especially interested in those that have run with both the Asics Gel Keyano and the Brooks Trance offerings. Thank you kindly.

I am a new runner my self (Regular now for about 4 mounths) so I have only had one pair of shoes thus far, they are a pair of Asics(gel) I dont know how they compare to other running shoes, but they sure as heck beat those 3 pounds(Each) loafers I was running in :P. The Asics gave me increased distance (Not sure how good on speed I am getting im not speed traning
yet).

Just about every running brand makes good running shoes. However, you need to get shoes that are right for your running gait. There are three categories - Cushioned Shoes for people who have high arches and tend to supinate; Stability Shoes for people who have normal arches and have a normal gait; and Motion-Control Shoes for people with flat arches and pronate. My
advice is to go to a specialty running store and get your shoes fitted. Most of these stores even have a treadmill so you can make sure you're leaving with the right shoes. I've been wearing the Asics 2000-series shoes for almost 10 years. I've tried other brands in between but always
come back to these shoes.

I've been running for over 20 years, the last 15 competetive. For the past three years I ran in New Balance 880's which worked great for me. I've recently switched to the Adidas Boston Classics which I like even better. Tennisbum4 is right about going to a specialty running shop for your first pair of shoes. They charge a bit more but they know what they are doing,
unlike the fashion-concience folks at the mall. After you find a pair that fits good you might as well stick with it so you can save money the next time and buy them online. As a side note, good socks are almost as important as the shoe. I know it seems like a rip but buy the New Balance
or asics socks with lycra (I forgot exactly what they are made out of). They cost about 13 bucks a pair but it's worth it. The asics ones are so high tech that they are labeled left and right. kinda funny to have an L and R on your socks like a 2 year old.

I would take the advice from Tennisbum and find a good running store to get fitted. I finally broke down and went to the store my wife shops at and they fitted me with the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn: the Brooks Beast. (I'm severely flat-footed and over-pronate). Of course, I can't run anymore due to ankle problems, so these are my everyday shoes.

New Balance 1121's. Almost impossible to turn an ankle they're so stable. And best of all, they're made in the US! My major reason for being incredibly loyal to New Balance, though, is unlike Nike, they didn't sell the mid range runner out for the basketball
and hip hop markets. New Balance has a generous toe box, which was a major problem with me in Nikes, that are manufactured for appearance and not comfort. (Can you tell I don't like Nike? Gee, I don't know why. Paying 7 year old Indonesian girls 35 cents a (12 to 16 hour) day to make shoes you sell for $200 a pair is a really good thing, isn't it?)

Davelacb seems a bit down in the dumps. Running shoes can be expensive but you don't have to buy the super-duper ones. Just buy something mid range like the new balance 880's. I ran a 15:56 5k in those suckers when I lost my flats. 20 years ago the most expensive running shoes on the market were bottom of the line by todays standards and there were guys running 100
miles a week in them. It's important to buy a decent shoe but just stick with decent. I always know who's going to die first in a race by their shoes. The guys with the top of the line crap almost always die first. There are specialty running stores in every major city and a bunch in
smaller towns too. Just check yahoo yellow pages. I don't know how much money you've got but if you really want to run i'm sure you'll do ok. Jesse Owens is a great example of a guy who just had a lot of desire and got it done. Same with Billy Mills.

You have no idea how much life sucks for me right now, I have no money I cant afford to take driving classes, Im still living with my parents who have no money and lots of bills. Another thing is that none of us can afford to eat more than twice a day and the food is not healthy at all. So, my metabolism sucks, I cant afford food or anything else and I cant take college classes because I have no
money. So im just stuck in the house with no money, no job, barely any food and i feel just useless I wanna run but there is no way i will be able to buy them until I get a job, which is hard, I cant even get a job at a fast food place. Sorry for the rant, I just feel like crap all the time. Thanks g_samsa for the advice but I cant afford any shoes anyway, all i got now is 2 pairs of dress shoes
and a pair of boots.

Geez, davelacb, I hope things start looking up for you. I know it sounds disingenuous to say but life is full of up's and downs. I hope you get to an up soon. I got married 9 years ago and didn't have anything. My wife and I ate ramen noodles every day for a month: ramen noodles and gatoraid. She finaly got a job at Arby's and I got a job stocking shelves at the
grocery store at night and went to school durring the day. We did ok for 3 years like that and gradually things got better. Now I have two kids who I stay home with and work from home. We still aren't rich but definatly not like we were 9 years ago. I know things will start looking up if you keep your chin up, sounds stupid but I guess that it's true. I don't mean to be pushy or nosy. Just hope
you get running soon. It always makes me feel better.

g_samsa is correct. We all have those periods in our lives where it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I remember one Christmas my ex-wife received a gft certificate for a free ham or turkey from the company she worked for. We went and got the biggest ham we could find and that's all we had to eat for 2
weeks. Things have gotten better since then but it still sticks in my mind. Persererance is the key. Pound the streets looking for work and always follow up after a job
interview. You may also have to consider moving to find a job if things are so depressed in your area. I know that in my profession (land surveying) the hot markets are in Florida and California right now.

Thanks for trying to make me feel better guys, even though it doesnt help. Old Fart, I wish I could move from this dangerous city, it sucks but Im to young and I have no money to be able to go anywhere else plus I cant drive or be able to afford college so I can finish. Another thing, you mentioned a job interview, man I musta tried 60 places during the last 3 years
I have been looking for a job and I have never gotten 1 call back or any job interviews. So, Im just stuck here, in this f*ckin city, until I can find a job. I would never do it, but now I understand why so many people in my city start to take or sell drugs.

davelacb: Please allow me to contribute my two cents here. Have you thought of returning to some of the places where you've applied? All too often people apply someplace, and assume just because they're told there's no openings at that moment, there never will be any. Nothing shows a prospective employer your willingness to work for him more than simply going back
and checking in with him, and letting him know that you really would like to work for his (or her) company. Also, this is advantageous, because given the current state of the job market, jobs turn over very quickly, because people don't stay with jobs the way they used to, so you never know, where there wasn't an opening two weeks ago, there just might be one
today. Key word in this and in running is perseverence. Don't give up! The main difference between success and failure is success never gives up and failure always gives up. It's as true in the search for a job as it is in running. Ask someone who runs marathons and they'll tell you they
didn't start out running 26 miles; they worked up to it. Likewise, ask someone who has a job they love and they will tell you they had to go through a lot before they got to that point. Ganas! Desire! I would wish you good luck, but if you are perseverant, luck will eventually come to you.

you mentioned that you understand why people turn to selling drugs, davelacb. People turn to selling drugs because they either don't see any other option (not the same as there actually being no other option) or they want instant success. Both reasons are an illusion. I told you a bit about my life but I didn't tell you that my wife got her law degree and worked as a
criminal defence attorney for a few years. She got sick of it and quit because she was tired of all the excuses people gave her for turning to drugs. Now she works as a project manager for a construction company. The point is that no matter what happens to you you need to always try to remain possitive and be the good guy. In the end it will work out for you but please don't be so negative as to
start contemplating being part of the problem. Again, I feel some sence of responsibility to say these things even though it really isn't any of my business. I hope you can forgive me if I've offended you in any way. I want people to succeed, even people I've never met.

Im not offended at all and I said that I would never turn to drugs but that I understood why others do. I hate drugs of all kinds I dont even drink or smoke, I will never be a part of the problem. I believe it will work out for me eventually Im just sick of dealing with this stuff now. Thanks.

Ive used New balance for the last 4 yrs ever since discovering the comfort. None of the other top brands come even close, at least suiting my foot shape. Myself, I tend to overpronate a bit.

I've used New balance for at least 15 years. Then a few months ago I bought some Asics to try something lighter, and I've given them to my dog. My knees and ankles started bothering me. I broke them in slowly and whined for two weeks. I'm back in a new pair of New Balance and have happy joints. I do need to go to a running specialist though, because after 13 miles my
hips start bothering me. It could be that my body is just getting used to the longer distances. I have 16 weeks to work up to the Marine Corp marathon.

ya, it's sad say but I had experienced problems when I started back up on my running routine about a year ago -the right knee - and im only a 26yr old infant. Scared to think whats ahead for me. Started using the eliptical more....deceased the constant pounding in right knee and increased it in my wee knee.
