In high school my record for the mile was 3:50. I was a wrestler and ran all the time. Now my mile is 6 minutes and im 35. Smoking thru my 20's destroyed my utmost physical conditioning I built up thru my senior year. In high school I wrestled 132lbs. Im 5'10" now I weigh 183. I still find it amazing how I can still outrun kids 10-15 years younger than me. All about intention.............

Your HS time was 7 seconds off that world record? That's a hell of an intention.

middle schoolers
the fast 6th graders at my school get 5:20's, but they're the best
an 8th grade boy recently got a 4:58, and that broke the school record
but he's a natural runner, although he hasn't had any training
but there are many boys with times in the five minute range, and a lot of girls with times in the 6 minute range
I've never done very extreme training, or sports, but I managed to break my time this year and get a 6:57
I'm doing training next year and hopefully I can get under 6:00
You can check out a local high schools statistic online..
for example, one low time I see for boys is 4:15, and a low girls time is 5:05
Those kids really are amazing! I'd be lucky to get that good..
but we can all try, right ?

my fastest mile time was 4:23 but that was many years ago. i never was good at the mile the longer the run was (more miles) the better my time became i was a cross country runner in high school and averaged 14:34 for the 3 mile run. but now im 20+ years older and can barely muster up a 6:30 carrying all this extra mass from lifting.

I am starting to train. I have a very doable goal and that is to run 1 1/2 miles in under 12 minutes. how can I start building up to that?

I'm 19 yrs, 6'1, 230-235 lbs, have a terrible diet, drink roughly 2 liters of soda a day, and have never worked out or done any kind of exercise routine until recently.
My mile run in my senior year of HS was 10:15, but now after just a few weeks of off-and-on running, I'm able to do 2-mile runs at just a little over 15 minutes without trouble.
I only run in the morning just before/as the sun is coming up. It's still a little cold out and the air feels great!
I'm happy so far.

Top Five High School mile times:
1 03:53.43 Alan Webb, South Lakes, Reston VA '01
2 03:55.3 Jim Ryun, East, Wichita KS '65
3 03:59.4 Tim Danielson, , Chula Vista CA '66
4 03:59.8 Marty Liquori, Essex Catholic, Newark NJ '67
5 04:00.29 Donald Sage, Elmhurst, York IL '00
Take note "Elienguitar" Jim Ryun & Marty Liquori are on that list and
you ain't faster.
So I guess this will be about the last we see of "Elienguitar"
He'll be running that mile away from here.

he mighta been thinking of timed kilometre...
i used to be a fairly able distance runner, all this talk of times has me interested. i might get my unfit ass doing some cardio, let you know if my time is respectable, if its not u probably wont hear from me again in this thread...
thinking back used to average about 30 mins for 7km jogging in grade 12 (3rd place) so... need a friggin converter.
*phone has a converter!* thats just under 7minute miles over about 4.5miles. will be interesting to see my current times.
