Hammer Nutrition
For my long runs I've been using powerbar gel. It's worked ok in the past and I have no complaints (except that it doesn't taste very good), but a friend of mine who does ironman told me to try the Hammer Gel instead. So I gave it a shot and ordered some online.
Bottom line is this: The stuff tastes great (got vanilla flavor), goes down easier than the powerbar stuff, has a more convenient opening to squirt out the gel, and as far as i can tell works better.
I had never heard of the stuff before because I guess it's used by bikers mostly.
I ran a 20 miler this morning and I carried two of them with me. I ate the first at 5 miles and the second at 15 miles. The first one gave me a boost less than 10 minutes after I ate it, and the one at 15 miles worked in about 5 minutes and sustained me all the way through. i ran the first 10 in 1 hr 14min and the second 10 in 1 hr 10min.
This is just a recomendation for anybody who is tired of the same ol power bar stuff. I've also heard that the cliff bar is good too. But I have never tried it.
