The longest race I have done is a 10k and I am looking to run a marathon in the spring or summer. I run cross-country for my school, but have gotten a little out of shape since the end of the season and have gained about 15 pounds. What should I do to get started and what's the quiskest way to get back into form (e.i. drop pounds, heighten anaerobic threshold, etc.)?

lose the weight before you begin doing any sort of speed or drills of any kind. Just do distance or some other exercize untill the weight comes off. Running is already an impact activity so when you are over your normal running weight you increase the risk of injury.

After the weight, then start following a programm. Cool running has a good one for the average joe. I think it peaks at about 70 miles a week for the advanced and 60 for the intermediate. Can't go wrong with a good general sort of program.
