Disney Half
Wish me luck! I did a 9.5 mile trail run this weekend and while a little stiff from it, think I'm ready for the half marathon at Disney this weekend. I've been building up mileage, mostly on the treadmill, but after the 9.5 I got the confidence I needed to feel like I can do the full half.

I hope it went well. I talked to someone at my club this morning who just got back from Florida. It was hot - like 85 degrees. I hope it wasn't that hot for the half marathon. That would be very hard.

Well, I made it! It was warm/humid, but overcast so not too overbearing. The humidity made for a real sweaty run.
I managed 2:48 with a 12:49 pace; the first 8 miles I ran, the next 2 I ran more than I walked and the last 3 I walked more than I ran (although I tried to power walk when walking).
No cramping, was stiff afterwards but by the next day I wasn't too bad off.
I'd do the Army 10 miler; but not really built for the marathon crowd.
Oh, and getting up at 3:30am was brutal, too!

congrats FP, my sister wants me to run the Sturgis 1/2 marathon with her in June, I am a weight trainer so the long distance running is goin to hurt! Better start running now.

Exactly! I'm also mostly in for the weights, but I do enjoy spin classes and some other cardio. I did build up to 8 miles on the treadmill and did a 9.5 mile run on a trail the weekend before. Building up is the key; I probably could have used a few more weeks in the 10 mile range for getting ready.
It's hard to find 2+ hours in a day to train just cardio (and add in 45 minutes for weights!).

Congratulations, FP! Doing a half marathon is a huge accomplishment. When you hang out (or sleep with) someone who does marathons and ironmans, it may seem like a small accomplishment. But consider how many people you yourself know who can't run one mile without stopping. It's totally awesome that you did it and totally awesome that you share something in common with your significant other. Not everybody has that. Next thing you know she'll have you in pool!

Thank you; actually, I was in the pool last year when I trained for the sprint tri I did. I had to teach myself, but it was fun. I probably like it more than I like running; but there is only so much a person can do when they have a career, no?
