I would like to know some more information on cold weather running. Right now I run outside but only in the warmer weather. I prefer to run out in the heat then the cold. I am never able to keep my ears on hands warm.
I did run a cold weather marathon in Philadelphia. One thing I learned was that trash bags were a great way to keep warm; while you're waiting at the start gate. But in terms of keeping warm while running, I'm open to suggestions.

I run outdoors throughout the winter (in Idaho, so it does get cold) because I can't stand a gym / treadmill.
My cold weather running attire is: athletic wool socks (Smartwool is a good brand), warm-up / running pants, cold weather Under Armour longsleeve mock turtle neck, wick-away half zip long sleeve shirt (REI, Nike, etc...) over the Under Armour and then a soft shell jacket I use for nordic skiing that is not bulky, breathes well, and keeps the elements from bothering me too much (wind, snow, etc...). I usually wear a beanie that can cover both ears fully and then some soft shell gloves.
I have found this attire to keep me warm regardless of what is happening with the weather (snow, wind, etc...) I like that it is not bulky and I very rarely feel too hot. The first half mile or so may be a little chilly, but once I get going it is not a problem.

The best thing for cold-weather running, after equipment of course, is to do a very good warm up. If you really must do static stretching then do it indoors where it's warm... static stretching in the cold with an inadequate warmup puts huge stresses on your ligaments and tendons.
The best other tip to have is ALWAYS carry your cell-phone with you somewhere secure. That way if you hit a black ice patch or do something silly you can get rescued. Also, make sure someone knows your route (if you pre-plan that is) and when you expect to be back. Small, trivial things but they could be life-savers.
For keeping warm while running, keep exposed skin to an absolute minimum. A few very thin layers is much better than one big layer. Firstly, you can remove the layers if you get too hot and secondly the layers hold in a pocket of warm air between them.
Running in cold weather is much more enjoyable than summer running.

I prefer cold weather running to warm weather. Mostly because there are less people out walking their dogs and getting in the way. The under armour gear works wonders but its quite expensive.

"Before you leave on your run if you feel very warm and comfy you are more than likely overdressed for your run."
- so true!
