Self Sabotage
Hey guys, I'm at this point which is kinda like a plateu right?
but the thing is... I'm purposely eating bad even when i dont want to!
its weird I'm definately trying to sabotage myself! but i cant figure out why!
I looked it up on the internet, it has a few things to say:
Weightloss Self-Sabotage
Weightloss plateaus are common and a natural part of losing weight and getting fit but have you ever sensed that maybe you were holding yourself back and contributing to your lack of results? Weightloss self-sabotage is something that most of us deal with and fail to address. Some of us aren't truly aware that we are doing it. We're confused that our effort doesn't match our results and have trouble figuring out how to get motivated to get off that plateau. Some of us are fully aware but don't want to deal with what's really going on so we ignore things and figure it will solve itself.
Are You Self-Sabotaging?
Do you tell yourself that you're eating healthy when you know you're not?
Have you made great progress but have lost control of your eating more often than you did when you started your weightloss or fitness program?
Do you tell yourself that you've worked hard and deserve to cheat more than 3 times a week?
Are you placing yourself in situations that guarantee you will cheat and not exercise?
Do you busy yourself taking care of others or other projects so that you can avoid dealing with your workouts and your diet?
Do you refuse to plan your cheats or your workouts because you don't want to feel pressured?
If you answered yes to any of these questions chances are you are self-sabotaging and bringing your progress to a halt. The reasons are many and vary depending on the person but can include:
Fear of how people will react to your success (especially family)
Fear of higher expectations at work and at home
Fear of dealing with your demons and true feeling
Fear of being happier than your friends or family
Fear of how men will treat you
The list goes on and on but you get the picture.
it goes on to give you ways to get passed it, by "relaxing" and what not. So am i doing it because of stress? or because of fearing that junk it listed?
I am quite stressed at the moment with a bunch of house and money stuff going on, so that could be it? Do I wait for it to go away or try and do something about it? Why am I trying to lose weight again? Has anyone else heard of this problem?
xxxxxxxx

I pretty live to self-sabotage.
Seriously though... yes I do this kind of thing all the time. I also do a ton of rationalizations about my self-sabotaging habits.

This sounds exactly like my wife. I do believe that it is stress related and reverting back to how she used to handle her stress, by eating crap.

If your comfortable looking average, then being awesome looking surely would make you feel uncomfortable. So the answer would be to actually feel worthy of being awesome looking!
But you're right I think I'll go back to normal once everythings settled
Thanks guys!

I hear ya girl, you hit the nail on the head.
Sometimes our actions do not show our true intentions/thoughts inside. We want to look healthy, but we are sometimes so stressed out from the amount of work and discipline it takes, that we need a little extra time with the things that make us feel comfortable.
Also, sometimes we put so much work and effort into attaining a complete physique, but what we see in the mirror doesn't equal the amount of effort we felt we put into it. Then we get stressed out.
I say "we" because it happens to me, everyone else, and probably you. I'm actually going through it again right now, because I have been sick for the past few days and haven't worked out since Friday. So lately, I've been feeling bad about myself and the condition I'm in, because I only have about seven weeks left to prepare for my next competition.
My suggestion is to sit down, relax, and take a good amount of time to really think to yourself. Think about what you want, not what anyone else wants of you. If you really want to look great and compete in physique competitions, then you know what you have to do. But if you are not 100% into what you're doing, and you're partially doing it just to impress or please someone else, then you're not doing it for the right reasons.

My biggest self sabotage is abusing my "cheat" meals/ day/ days. I just love to eat, and sometimes I just want to eat bad.
So Sunday has become a binge; breakfast out, typically ham and cheese omelet and hashbowns; a big lunch, pasta, veggies, too much meat and desert; and the same for dinner.
Now with football season started, I even give in to my greatest weakness, chips; Potato or corn. I will eat a hole bag before the first quarter is even over.
I have watched my weight go up 4, 6, 8 lbs. on bad weekends. Especially if we go out to eat on Friday or Saturday. I am so close to my goal weight now, that on the following Monday morning I can see that extra fat just sitting there above my waist line. It is Wednesday and I can feel it while I type now.
I tried to justify these binges by saying "hey I deserve it, I have lost so much weight; I am disciplined enough to loss handle it" and simply planning extra cardio. But it is too hard to catch up. I have been at the plateau for about a month now.
I have come to realize that a cheat meal is all I can allow myself. My goals are personal, not for competition. That is a whole other level of dedication. I want to be health; look and feel good.
Gymgirl, From your post and blog you have come a long way and look great!!! Whether you decide to compete or not; you have determination and fortitude to continue a health lifestyle and maintain a fitness level higher than 90% of the earth population.
We all get discouraged, it is easy to slip and fall. The dedicated will get back up!!!

Thanks guys. You're right! Thanks so much for the support!
Its weird eating thing that makes you feel gross and you dont feel like. It's almost like you're going"if you do this you will feel good"
I've set myself a new goal! 22 of December I'm going on a holiday to bali and I want to look awesome in the bikinis I will be wearing! So I'm going to go on a cutting diet for 2 weeks and 2 months! Although, I might have to give myself some leniancy while moving house and changing jobs. But is a goal! and I'm excited about it!
Thanks again guys!
