Default Yogurt&nuts

I got a real thing for yogurt which is that I jus love it!! I can eat gallons of the stuff! Not just any yogurt but 'natural' yogurt, I especially like mixing mint and cucumber etc in it which is supposed to b used as a dip but I just eat it like soup, yum! My fav is greek yog but because of the fat in there i've reduced it to the low fat type.
What I want to know if I can actually eat lots of this and still be considered a 'healthy' diet i'm on? because i've always thought yog is healthy but some say its not for some reason? It's the only food I really love which is anywhere near to 'healthy' an I really don't wanna give it up i've already given up all the choc and fried stuff soooo, also humous is a favorite of mine, I personally thought it as healthy but some say its not?
Nuts r another fav, especially cashews, but I always limit the portion with them because they r so high in fat but I constantly get told to eat them because theyre healthy i even read posts on here saying theyre healthy but when I check the label again I see theyre full of fat so am getting mixed signals here, how healthy r they really?? I cant make any sense of these food labels anymore

the fat nuts contain is the healthy type thats easily converted to fuel in a workout as opposed to the fat you get from fried foods.

Dietary fat isn't the same thing as bodyfat. Bodyfat is dependant on eating more calories (a combination of all the fat, protein, and carbs you're taking in) than you're burning.

Yogurt is perfectly fine for you - I also love greek-style yogurt with some honey. That said, eating "gallons" of it - or eating any dip "like soup" is going to be a disaster. Because you'll be taking in more calories than you're burning. And will therefore put on more bodyfat, regardless of if it's lowfat or not.

Same thing with nuts. Very healthy, but only in moderation b/c if you eat by the handful you'll just take in excess calories.

One of the many great advantages to being active and having appreciable muscle mass is that you can eat tons of the foods that are healthy and delicious and have no worry about the calorie numbers. But that'll probably be years away - it's a good goal, though. Until then, remember that moderation is the key.

I love no fat yogurt with berries and nuts, with a bit of honey........yum! add oats if you are looking to thicken it up and its even better!!

Your probably pretty safe of eating even a lot of it if it's low-fat. Like pliny_2001 said your weight gain/loss is dependant on caloric intake. Most lowfat yogurts have about 70 calories per 4oz which is pretty darn low. You can eat a bunch of the stuff just spread it out throughout the day. As for the nuts they are good too like a couple people have mentioned as they contain good fats, not all fats are created equally. But in contrast cashews are kinda like the lowest form of the nuts where that EFA content is concerned. I agree with you they taste good in my opinion too, but if you could switch over to a walnut which has the highest Omega-3 content where nuts are concerned it would be of more benefit.
