Detox/ Defeating the unbalanced nutrition blahs
What are your favorite foods/teas/etc. for getting your body back in balance?
I have had p!ss poor nutrition for a few weeks in light of super stress, and now I really feel like crap. In addition to limiting my caloric intake, I have been looking for fresh foods without chemicals/preservatives/etc. to try and get my body back in balance- have doubled up on the multivitamin, drinking various fresh juices, eating veggies and fruits, limiting carbs, and going to fix myself a cup of green tea. I still feel pretty poo-y, though.
What are your favorite pick-me-up or detox foods/teas/concoctions?

Watermelon, apple and pineapple juices mixed together are one of the best pick-me-up juices for detoxing you body of nasty chemicals. Seafood (freshly caught and cooked) is another good one. Try to avoid any pasta and cream based sauces. Balsamic based dressing are the best dressings for salads and avoid at all costs butter and margerine

ha ha, never mind.... 12 hours later the truth is revealed. fresh fruits and veggies aren't much good against a virus! I still think I'll do the pineapple thing once things return to normal, though. I'd still love to hear other ideas along these lines!

I did the health inc plus cleanse eating clean with some herbal kidney, adrenal, liver and colon cleansing.
I don't do well with drastic stuff, wild rose can really make you dizzy, lightheaded and nauseated, fasting is not for me, liquid diet not my thing although when i am sick.....been there.
I find lots of extra water with veggies which do not make you gassy are best, and lower sugar fruits.
Teas are fabulous as are broths and juices if you go the 45 day fasting type of deal.
I have a few poeple at the gym, trainers, who swear by colonics......I donno...............they said it brings up things stuck in there for years n years........one lady had a cherry seed in her from her 30 years ago......so appparently stuff does get caught in there which can stay in there I suppose.
My option was from healthinc.plus and not cheap but great and mild. usually you get those side effects I mentioned above from toxins leaving you, like after deep tissue massage or acupunture you can bee dizzy and light for a few mins or more.....this is toxin release and oxygen into muscle which was blocked, and I find similar feelings with detox but I try to stick with the milder option and found this one great without any of these and had energy etc. I was also not going to the can excessively or anything, it was very passive yet effective. I did this after a bodybuilding contest in 2001, actually2. but the diet for that was kinda cleansing to, as is my lean down pre contest diet.

Thanks, IAngel, I'll look into that... now that I am starting to be able to eat again!
So here's a question that has been bugging me... I am 5'10" and large-framed, and I am just uncertain about the caloric intake I have been aiming for. For months, I was aiming for an intake of 1800 or below (for fatloss)- usually eating around 1720 cals a day. This, combined with active lifestyle, helped me lose from 226 lb. to 200 lb. I then went back up to my current 212 lb (granted, some of that salt-related) during a very stressful 3 months. I want to eventually be 180 lb at minimum, 166 lb for perfection.
Being sick has been a good kickstart back on the diet, since I physically can't stomach more than about 1000 calories a day still, but as I get back to normal eating: I calculate my BMR to be 1778, and my TDEE to be between 2438-2600. If I take 20% of that off to give me a diet goal, that is still 1950 calories, and that is really erring on the side of underestimating my exercise level.
Seems like an exhorbitant number of calories for a woman to have as a goal on a diet, doesn't it? Or do you think this sounds ok? I keep thinking how my mom (a petit-framed, 5'6" woman) was given a goal of 1300 calories for her weightloss.... but, I'm 4 inches taller, a lot more muscled, and I guess I'm actually closer to the size of an average man and should diet accordingly? I just don't want to be shooting myself in the foot by eating too much because of a mistaken calculation.

That sounds very sane to me..........2000 cals is a great base especially at your height and such but 1800 is also fine and you may feel more comfortable with it, as long as the cals you take in are nutrient rich and clean foods.
