It's whey protein, and in controlled portions is great. Go for the pressed.

Could you eat it instead of having protein shakes?

hey gym girl
ya I could replace a shake with cottage cheese. its pretty easy to take around in a cooler bag with some ice for work or long days out. I was concerned with the fact that its dairy. But I believe most fitness competitors who are in contest prep mode avoid it because of the lactose (just adds more sugar carbs). But I'm not in that predicament so incorporating some a few times a week shouldn't hurt my weight loss efforts

I use it moderately for protein and think its okay but if you are refining the diet, yeah, dairy and meet products.....are a no no.
I have a few on vegan and raw......so I know it, but I don't practice that although I think I could be healthier. I drop dairy pre contest, now this time around I have still been having some whole milk in coffee............but I know this is bad, especially for me for various reasons........I think we are all different but if willing, I always believe vegan raw to be best just maybe not easily realistic in our society.
I think comparitively its a great source for protein espeically organic or goat...and if you follow the 80/20 diet on ph ........you will see dairy, legumes and proteins are in the 20% collumn.
My acupunturist wants me on this......I am thinking of triyng, I may be a bit higher on the protein /acid, like 25%......but can try, would have to be the right season though.
right now I cannot. She said goat is better, and suggests fermented beans and for me she said no cold food, no soy, no raw......so there you go...........
my 2 Cents.
Linda

I love cottage cheese and eat it as a late snack for some good overnight protein. I get the 1% of fat free versions.

Love the Lactaid brand. Great taste, texture and lactase enzyme already added.

I thought cottage cheese was casein and whey proteins.

nice catch - I think that it's only casein; that they whey is drained off after the casein forms curds.

I had heard that too but I had also been told that when "little miss muffet" was eating her "curds and whey" she was just eating cottage cheese so I thought perhaps it was a mixture.

"Curds and whey" from the story refers to modern day yogurt. Cottage cheese is almost 100% casein. Whey is the watery stuff on the top of unmixed yogurt. Don't pour that stuff out before you eat it!
