Vitamin percents
I have noticed I am getting sick more frequently than usual.
I would blame this on the little kids that are running
around my house with their little dirty hands and germs, but
I am wondering.. since my diet lately has consisted of eggs,
chicken, steak, lunch meat, peanut butter, wheat bread, milk
water, protein and creatine supplements. Oh and of course the
slip up where I end up hanging out with friends and snacking on
some chips/cookies and a soda Maybe I'm just not getting the
vitamins that my body needs.
So I was looking into some vitamins and I was thinking they all
probably do about the same thing, but I see some vitamins they'll
have listed under "DAILY INTAKE" for example "500%" of vitamin C.
What is my body going to do with 5 times the amount of vitamin C it
needs. Can it even utilize and make use of that extra 400%?.
I was thinking about just taking Centrum capsules. It seems to have
100% or close to 100% of every vitamin listed on the label. Would this
be a good one to take?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I searched the forums and the internet
but i couldn't come up with much. Thanks for any input.

RDA % are way out of line and are the MINIMUM your body requires to avoid a deficeincy. As an example the RDA of Vitamin C is something like 30mg, enough to stuff you developing scurvy!!!!
I take between 2000mg-3000mg of vitamin C per day, that 100x times what they say we need. Though beware some vitamins definately shouldn't be taken in such high doses. Vitamin A and Vitamin D for example can be toxic if you take too much.
Hard training athletes need more vitamins and minerals than your average joe couch potato.
Centrum? I wouldn't buy those, have a search and buy a good quality multi-vitamin or don't bother at all. EAT SOME FRUIT AND VEG!!!!!!

As luggaguy just said and linked to, I think the ADAM's men's multi is one of the best value on the market. You have to spend a lot more money to find one of better quality.
Opti-Men isn't very good either.

I'd put Opti-Men above Vitrin and the ADAM's way above it.

I only know that Mark Verstegen recommends it - though I'll be the first to admit that my vitamin knowledge gets pretty thin for anything after a discussion of d-alpha tocopherol and dl-alpha.
I read the posts linked-to above - I hadn't seen them before, and was very interested. I'm buying up a few months of supps right now (BCAA, protein) and added some of the ADAM to the pile - I see it for sale at the organic grocery, but never really looked at it (the vitamin area always has that aromatherapy smell - lowers my testosterone like a shot to the nads).
I'm almost embarassed to say that before the vitrin, I was using Target's version of Centrum Performance.

I used Centrum performance many times, you think you can trust the big brand names as they're always the most expensive so must be the best quality right? but it usually turns out to be the complete opposite.... annoys the hell out of me

It says zinc supplements, what kind? there are so many! Does this mean ZMA is dangerous? If so why haven't they listed magnesium aswell then? Or are they just talking about the infinitely inferior zinc oxide?
Who paid for the study? How much would it cost to study 300,000 men for 5 years?! It's usually only pharmaceutical companies who can afford to do such things. Guess what? They want all health foods and supplements banned!! Why? So we all need their drugs when we get ill... but that's another story.

Uh i have this prob too, i am in China for a foreign exchange and the hygiene is not as good, would it be sufficient if i take at least 2 to 3 servings of fruits and about a serving ( a serving being about the size of half a fist) of veggies for each of my main meals? (my other meals are fruits and milk, yeah no protien shake, no vitamin supplement here, not excalty a good place for weight lifting)

Fruit and veg are superior to any multi-vitamin if you ask me

Carefull with how much of those you drink. They're ok immediately PWO I suppose but not other times. They're full of simple carbs, sweeteners, additives, colourings, etc. Most of them are fancy blues, greens, reds, etc, this stuff isn't good for you

yea i agree, sry i made a mistake, wat i mean is as i usually drank those during my workout or other strenous activities.
i usually drink gatorade during my workout as i read that thats when u need to replenish ur electrolyte, i find it helps as i dun seems to feel so drain in the middle of my workout.

I agree that NOW Adam is one of the best available, for an excellent price.
But, it would be better to eat more vegetables and fruits instead. A head of lettuce, a couple of cups of raw spinach, a few stalks of broccoli, an orange, a tomato, and onion, and a serving of berries every day would be good.
You can put some of it in your blender and drink it.
I used to take Adam. Now I just take B12 and D2, the rest I get from food.

Yes I'm similar. I like to think I get everything I need from my diet, which is rich in organic fruits and vegetables.
I still buy the ADAM's but only the V-Caps, I don't get the big, hard, compressed tablets anymore, as I can't see these making it any easier for your body to use and absorb the vitamins.
Also I only ever take them with fruit or veg as these contain goodies that help our bodies make use of the vitamins and minerals they contain. My thinking is they should help with the multi-vits aswell.
The biggest battle with taking supplements like multi-vits is getting our bodies to absorb and use them. In some cases as little as 2% will be used by your body, so any little bit helps.
Also the V-Caps are 3x caps per day as a serving. I only take 1, maybe 2 at the most if I feel a little run down or maybe my diet hasn't been 100% that day. I don't rely on them to supply my body with the nutrients it needs, they aren't a replacement.... not even close!

That's the vitamin B2 (riboflavin) being passed out of your system, nothing to worry about
