Default Bodybuilding advice

hooah, my name is Logan. I'm 19 and weight 150-160 lbs, I tend to change body weight throughout every week. last i checked, my max on bench pressing was 140lbs, at the time that was my own weight. I got into the routine of weight lifting (thank god) in a Army National Guard program for youth, which i proudly graduated from. it was the best thing i ever did in my life.

down to why i am making the thread and why i joined the forums/site. I am a slim framed 5'10" - 5'11" male and looking to build my triceps, biceps, shoulders and forearms. im a runner and i want to build up my upper body abit more.

looking for abit advice...

What kind of advice is what you are looking for like actaully bodybuilding routines? if so try the bodybuilding forum.

But here is a little bit of advice

Start going to the gym. try to find a lifting partner who has some experience in lifting or possibly a trainer.

Hello there !

First of all, 150-160 lbs is pretty imprecise, I'm sure you can do better than that

Now, there are many good exercices you can do for the body parts you mentioned, the most important is that you be regular at training them and that you eat well and rest well. Also, even if you specifically would like to improve these muscles, you should still train your whole body to avoid muscle imbalance and to promote muscle growth everywhere. Good exercises for the body parts you mentioned include :

biceps : barbell curls, dumbbell curls (standing or seated incline), preacher curls, supinated chin ups.
triceps : dips, close grip bench press, lying tricep extensions (skull crushers), dumbbell tricep extensions.
shoulders : shoulder press (dumbbell and barbell) and laterall raises.

I'm not a big fan of doing specific exercises for the forearms but they won't lag behind your other body parts if you do movements such as heavy deadlifts, bent over rows, shrugs, pull ups, and basically any movement where you pull, plus simply carrying plates and dumbbells accross the gym. You could also do reverse curls and hammer curls.

Note that doing bench press (barbell or dumbbell, incline or flat) will give a workout to your pecs, shoulders and triceps all at once, so that's definitely an exercise you want to do.

If you don't know what some of the exercises look like, just go to this great website : http://exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html
Of course don't forget to abuse the search function from the forum and read around here.

Is that the kind of advice you were looking for ?

looks good to me, but the reason why i was so interested in the upper body is. im a runner that plays soccer and skateboards, the upper body strength i have now is thanks to the military program i was in, my abs, thighs and calfs are toned and i will be building on them later, hence... runner.

imagine a guy with hardly any upper body strength with strong abs, looks like i got a beer belly ay? lol

but the PROBLEM i have is a back muscle giving me a hard time, its tense and hurts to walk... looked around and its this muscle "Quadratus Lumborum"

hurts to sit or stand and especially to walk. people tell me its a nerve but i refuse to believe. i pissed it off by skateboarding extensivly
