Default My diet...

As of now, i'm currently eating a nice bowl of cereal for breakfast, a lunch usually of domino's cheesy bread, and a snack when coming home (varies from prego sauce on pasta or mcdonalds quarter pounders, large fries, large coke :P lol), and a dinner of pasta, or leftovers & cereal. Sometimes the afterschool snack will be something like beef and potatoes, but not as commonly.

As you can see, i'm not getting many vegies or fruits (raisins with cereal is what i'm doing is the only part). Also, cheesy bread does not look healthy at all. At the same time, i'm gaining weight (only weigh 120-125 and i'm 6'6''). I should be 136 lbs at lowest according to healthchecksystems.com/heightweightchart.htm (add the www won't let me post links). I do work out, I am pretty strong, now focusing a lot on the abs, which i hear diet effects the most. So I need some help on changing my diet if needed, and still getting in extra calories. Thanks!

Hey man! Welcome to the site! I am pretty new myself.
I am no pro by any means, but basically you should adopt the habit of eating veggies and fruit (something I need to do myself) and eat healthier fat food such as peanut butter (one of my favorite things to eat!). Cheesy bread sounds like it should be kicked out of your diet.
I just noticed...you and me like the same breakfeast! I eat cereal and a banana normally.

hi thefresh-s-s-s-s!

So you're aiming to put on muscle and not too much fat?

With what you're eating at the moment, the muscle putter-onage is going to be very slow! saturated fats dont really turn into muscle! so your maccas and your cheese ect should probably be booted out

If you're gaining weight I'm a believer in you're going to have to put some fat on too, keeping it at a minimum would be eating as clean as possible and as often as possible! You should try and keep your simple carbs to the morning and straight after you work out, then just eat complex carbs and proteins as much as you can. Also if you can get a slow release protein for when you go to bed that would help a lot! Your muscles do their healing thing while you sleep and watch the sugar content of your cereal!!

There are some really good gaining diet ideas on this site!! I'll try and find you some links!!

xxxx

Your self-description is similar to another member's we have on this forum. Except he's 6'0" and 94 pounds, and claims to have no eating disorders.

How old are you, and what is your financial status? Do you live at home with mom & dad and eat whatever mom cooks? Do you have the ability to go to the market and buy your own food? If so, what is your spending limit?

6 feet and only 94 pounds? Wow... anyways, i'm 17, financials are not a problem, the next time i go to the grocery shop i'll pick out anything suggested. Everything there can be handled, but for lunch my only options are sandwiches, pizza, burgers, burritos, some other things not even worth mentioning. There is one pretty healthy spot that just opened I might check it out, but besides that, sandwich sounds like the best thing. My breakfast is probably fine; eating some grape nut crunch or something for on weekdays, which is supposedly for dieters, but it has 200 calories which is twice the normal puff'd cereal. I also add milk and golden raisens btw :P. On weekends is probably the best, because i have a choice of all meals, and a nice triple sunny side egg sandwich (too bad i don't work out on the weekends). Thanks for all the open help!

I'm vaguely familiar with your predicament - I was something like 6'3'' 170 (see - only vaguely) in high school. There's a ton of advice to give (eat more, healthier, more often is the short version), but none of that really worked for me until I was about 20 - I just wasn't able to gain weight until I had stopped growing, and you may kind of be the same (that said, though, I was 3 inches shorter and 50 pounds heavier, so I've got to guess you'll be able to gain something).

I'll agree with everyone as to ditching the cheesy bread - I school I always ate a sandwich for lunch (turkey, roast beef, pbj, etc), had something like baby carrots or cherry tomatoes, and skim milk. I used to always eat cereal for bfast - no I usually either go for oatmeal w/protein powder or eggs. Are you able to just add a hard-boiled egg or 3 to eat along with your cereal? Like J_R says, tossing a banana on cereal's a good way to go, as well. Maybe add a quality "mass-gainer" shake - they're ultra-high calorie shakes.

Like he also said, peanut butter's great - I eat it with a spoon and some dark chocolate, but it's also great with celery. Also, try eating first thing before bed - cottage cheese, a casein shake, or peanut butter. Have a steamed vegetable with dinner.

And just for health, ditch McDonalds. Try minimizing the role of fast food in your diet.

Good luck - assuming there aren't any medical issues, you'll be able to gain mass eventually (I finally got up to 215).
