You see, it's like this...in life, you can choose to aspire to higher things (education, job, body, spouse, etc) but you will have to WORK for them. So the choice is yours...how bad do you want it? Look great, feel great, and be healthy or be lazy, get fat, and feel like crap. Either way, you have to pay the price. With the first way, you pay the price through hard work and good diet. With the second way, you pay the price later with health problems, dating problems (assuming that overweight people might have more difficult in this area), and chronically feeling like crap!

The choice is yours!

clyde you want to be healthier obviously or you wouldnt be here inquiring about help. it would appear your looking for some magic pill or elixir to get you were you want to be. there are enhancement drugs on the market to help a person cheat towards their goal but one factor always remains the same, you have to WORK for it. even with fat loss ades without actually excercising and doing some sort of activity you wont accomplish anything!
from what you post on here it appears you have desire but no will. let me guess you spend plenty of time gaming, watching t.v. and such things. its those habits that need curving. you dont even need to cut them all out just learn to utilize your time more efficiently.

As I mentioned earlier, start small. Wildstang got it dead right, if you expect weight to just fall off, you're setting yourself up for a major fall.

Two ways to lose weight:

1. the bounceback diet. This is where you crash diet or eat stupidly (e.g. Atkins), change nothing else about your life, lose 40 pounds then put it back on again within six months with a little interest because you and your body have no idea how to maintain it. EVERY diet in the consumer magazines is based on this, EVERY diet drink or diet program is based on this and 9/10 experts will have a bit of this in their "plans" otherwise they'd never get the mugs in month after month buying the goods again and again.

2. the real diet. Here it is, the secret to successful dieting, I expect royalties on this if you use it: EAT LESS, DO MORE

This is a lifestyle choice, if you want to be an active person, you need to start slowly from a sedentary lifestyle. Start with the walking plan I highlighted on the first page, no-one's expecting you to pump out the pounds or run marathons, just start getting your body used to doing more than the basics of life.

And yes, you can keep a fairly sedentary lifestyle, you can be in front of your computer 5 hours a day, all you need to do is put a little body time aside and restrict your diet to regular meals with healthy food.

I second that you can lead a sedentary lifestyle and still make gains. I work on computers 8-10 hours a day, and love my video games (BTW, deadspace comes out today ). First thing in the morning though I'm at the gym for an hour before work lifting/doing cardio. You just have to find that one thing that keeps you motivated and helps you change....

A few ideas that helped me at first..
I printed out pictures at home from when the beach on my honeymoon (they are amazingly bad). I kept one in my locker at the work gym, one attached to the fridge at home, and one in my cube. Whenever I would see it I would get that motivation to make it to the gym that day. I wasn't trying to put myself down because of how I looked at the time, it was a reminder of what I wanted to change. I still have the picture in my gym locker as a reminder to push myself but not in my cube or at home anymore cause I've pushed myself to eat better. I'm not saying I always eat healthy, but 80% of the time I am.

Try starting a workout journal. Every night write down everything you ate and what exercise you did that day, look at it the following morning and make a consious decision to change one thing, not everything, ONE thing you consider the worst offender. Do you're best to keep doing the changes all week, and changing the bad. After a few weeks you'll be surprised at how much your habits would be changed.

You can do it... just keep at it.

Clyde, try charting your work. At first chart everything you do, no matter how small. Later, chart just the work outs. This can be a visual measuring stick. When you can see your walk duration increasing you can feel good about that without the scale or the mirror bringing you back down. Then you work on the physical goal without the need for the validation of weight and appearence. Before you know it the numbers will go up and you have a small success. This makes you feel better so you strive for more success. And so on, It's contagious.. Your on the right path!!! DON"T GIVE UP!!!!

Clyde, the hardest part of you trying to lose weight will be the mental aspect of it, not the physical. You have stated that you have the spirit, well lets set some small goals for you to reach and take it one step at a time. All of the advice given by our members here is invaluable. They all know what they're talking about and would never stear you in the wrong direction. We will be here to support you, but you need to do your part as well and start developing the mindset needed to achieve your goals.

Keep your initial goals simple: cut out fast food, chips, sweets, fried food, soda. Clean up your food intake and make sure you are consistant in doing so. It seems that you are having trouble with this goal and thats where you have to use that spirit along with some will power to get your diet in check.

As a young person your desire to lose weight is present because you want to look good, but you have to take a look at the big picture and that can be difficuly for a person your age so hopefully this can provide some motivation. Consistant physical activity will decrease the risk of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and colon cancer to name a few. You need to develop the right habits now so that you don't put your children in the same position your parents put you in.

Good luck and remember to ignore that voice in your head that tells you NO because we don't listen to that here at EF. I'll be the first to tell you that this is going to be a battle, but a battle you are capable of winning. We are all in your corner Clyde, but you need to come out swinging!!!
