001, 002, 003,.......files
I downloaded a videoclip of 700Mb with my Ųtorrent application and instead of downloading one big file of the same size; it put all small files with the weird extension *.001, *.002, *.003 etc in one folder.
The files have all the same size, exept for one. So it must be a split thing and probabily compressed too (So I guess no HJ Split). My GspotCodecInformationTool says it should be rar's.
Normally these files should be rar's and have the extension *.r001, *.r002, *.r003 etc
However anyhow I keep renaming them, after right clicking the lowest number: *.001 or *.r001 and choosing for extract here (winrar), I get the request to look for r00 ??
I know to most of you I'm talking Chinese, but you never know.
Anybody any idea ?

Usually they are using WinRar, though sometimes they just do a binary file splitting. Please have a look at HJsplit, it's a freeware file-splitter and joiner. Start the program, choose join and choose the 001-file as input file and see if it works.
http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/
If it don't work, look with a hexeditor (or another binary viewer) at the first file, if it's compressed the headers will show it.

I'm agreeing with MichKar. If you're on a mac, though, I'm a fan of machacha.

Problem solved
Well i/t meantime the problem is solved.
Like I said the files had the extension *.001 and so till.... *.049 or even higher.
There were several folders of different Clips and they all had these files in it.
Now if you R-click a file with a 001 extension, the opportunity to open it with WinRar isn't given, not even in choose to open with.. (however it is when the file is called *.r001). So you get the 3th option to look on the net or to choose among a list of programs. So I choose Winrar and from there on it extracted all the files and made one big file.
Normally among the downloaded files there had to be a file with a simple *.rar extension among the 001 or r001 files. And also in that case these files have the rar icon (for the *.rar and also for the *.r001, *.r002 .. files) but not for the files with the *.001, *.002.... extensions.
Here you can see what I mean... allthough it's still weird that the files above 29 don't get that rar icon.
Anyway thanks 4 looking it up.
And http://www.newtorrents.info/ damn good free tracker site

Just a shot in the dark here PLover007, but it may be possible that these files could be winiso files.

The problem is solved as I mentioned b4.
I know the joiner, and I have it on my PC along with some other joiners splitters.
When someone uses one or another splitter, he usually mentions it in one or another text file, together with the files to be joined. This is needed because there are lots of joiner/splitters. And the same program has to be used.
The thing I found out is that when there's nothing mentioned it is 99% a rar file that is splitted.
If you do the splitting yourself you have the option how to name them.
Because not everyone renames these splitted parts to r000, r001 etc..., there can be confusion. If you have Winrar, a file with the extension r000 or r001 etc.., is immediately recognized as a rar file and gets the accordingly winrar icon.
If you choose to rename the splitted parts to just 000, 001 or anything else, these files or NOT recognized by winrar and of course don't get the winrar icon. So you have to "force" Winrar to recognize them as Winrar splitted files.
