Yeah, same here. I think someone (i.e. Imagevenue) is trying to be too clever. This new thing is a pain in the ...........!
No wait... It is doing it with all thumbnails. Maybe EF started it?

I checked other forums, and it is not happening there. So it must be something here at EF.

My first thought was: Hey - that's cool! But now I find it simply annoying, too.
I'd liketo have an option to turn it off.

Sorry folks, nothing of that kind on my side. On the other hand I'm perhaps just a little more protected. Anyway for those that use FF add these extensions
Adblock Plus 0.5.11.4 or newer
NoScript 1.1.4.5 or newer
You may have to configure the settings and allow popups or Javascript accordingly for a specific whole/partially website or just temporarily. Settings can be done in the status bar below your page. If there's something on a page that won't load I'll adjust it accordingly to allow JavaScript for that page or just once; and the page will load afterwards. But the main setting should be not allow Javascript globally.

It's probibly something FP added, Yahoo mail does somthing similar, you scroll over and this window pops up, makes it hard to click the link sometimes though.

I investigated, it's something you add to your site.
I added it to my site, The Most Awesome Batman Site Ever, just ask timzombie, and look what it does in my links.
But no preview shows up for my site.

At first I thought plover's suggestions will do it but it's much easier: You simply have to disable java script in your browser's options. At least in FF it works.

Even if you don't click on it?
I think they check the links on your site because I had 31 guest on my site right after I signed up, I've never had more than 3 at a time, and 5 minutes later they were all gone.
The owner of the site has to "install" the feature and I'm sure FP looked at it closely before doing it. Least I hope so since I put it on mine.
And the main page at the site advertises no spyware or adware.

I noticed also, if you click on options it will ask you if you want to turn it off for this site, that might be the way to go if it bothers you. At first I thought I had some addware on my pc.

It's like the same type of feature that Ask.com added about 2 years ago.
If the listing has a set of binoculars next to it, you mouse over and it gives you a preview of what the page looks like with out clicking on it.

With those add-ons (extensions) you have a controlable javascript option. I mean sometimes if you just disable Javascript globally you just can't do anything. With those extensions (at least that one for JS) you decide for which sites you allow it. And it's done in a second.
Enabling JS globally isn't safe and disabling it like you suggest is only good temporarily. Test it out 4 yourself how many sites you just can't do anything without reenabling it.

And together with the Adblock Plus you're OK for most annoyances. With the adblock plus the same: you decide when and with which website you allow popups.

I added this as a feature so you can try to preview any links you click off from on this site... :P
If you turn off javascript entirelly, you'll miss out on alot of the neat features of the site.
