not getting instant email notifications

for awhile now I get some and not others which I count on to check out my clients journals etc.......I did before but now its sketchy.
I checked my isp email setting and have junk turned of, I mailwash all my mail and checked my server too........all those areas are good so maybe its something here? I checked my settings and unless I missed something, it should be sending me instant notifications but if I get them they come late and some are not coming at all.
thoughts?
