How does the rep-system exactly work?

Title says it... sure there's a sticky with an explanaition, but - maybe its my english-abilities - maybe i couldn't read it out of the description... how do reps count?

I got about 280 reppoints for a longer time. I understand, that you get reppoints by postcount and by time of membership... an you get reppoints when getting repped by members.

Repping members' posts gives (or takes) the ammount of points according to the "repl power" (my case: 8)???

So Reppoints should raise with each rep-entry I get? Well - it doesn't - keeps the same level although i got repped several times.

Then - there are different entries in my rep-directory... some got blue bullets, some got gray bullets... what does THAT mean??? NegReps???

Some clearance would be great - maybe just for me, maybe for others, too?!

A Rep only counts once from each member, blue bullets represent the rep that counts, grey's are re-reps. So If I rep you today, and tomorrow, you only get 7 not 14.

When my rep count goes up to 8, I will need to re-rep you for your count to go up...

neg reps tale points away, I can't picture you getting a neg rep, but you never know.

AAAAh... thats it!!!

Now that makes sense. So - the whole repping and repping again isn't much more than the "Thanks"-button when used more than once per rep-power-level *g*.
