interestingly enough.....I had this conversation like 2wks ago:
guy: wow u look gr8...u lost a lot of weight....what have u been doing?
Me: diet/cardio/weights/karate/dance
guy: really u do weights...u just need to watch out cause since ur trying to lose weight u shouldn't be lifting heavy weights....if not ur gonna bulk up.
me: (inner dialogue) oye!!! not this again. (what I said) really?
guy: yeah...what kind of weights are u lifting
me: well today I was doing dead lifts and I was up to 140lbs...
guy: what?! do u know how ur gonna look lifting that kind of weight? ur upper body is gonna get huge.
end of conversation....u have no idea what a dead lift is or what it works........

Well deadlifts mainly target:
Quadriceps, Hamstrings, Gluteals, and the Lower Back
But if done properly, people can actually get an overall body workout. Even though you aren't really targeting the whole body. Powerbuilders for one, can get an excellent overall body workout. But then again, everything we do is debateable in society.
Have a good night EF.

man I hate it when people try to correct me to. Just yesterday this scrawny guy was watching me do straight leg deads. He said man that is too much weight you're gonna throw your back out. I was doing #255 sets of 8. I was like man......I've been doin this for years and "you" are going to tell me how much weight to use? What I actually said was that the weight isn't what hurts your back its the form, and as you can see I have been doing this awhile and my back is quite ok.///end of hyjack/// I feel your pain ladies....go big or go home.

Hey Pam that is too funny and so hilarious! I get the same thing at the gym. I was using the leg press and I had 3 plates on each side and this guy walks by and says to me, "DO you need some help taking some of those plates off"?
I replied no, actually grab another and throw it on!! LMAO He couldn't believe I could do so much weight!! LOL I still laugh when I see him at the gym, its hilarious!
Thanks cat for posting that article link. I am not afraid of weights, BRING IT ALL ON!! I love training heavy and have no fear of getting big, I just fear of not getting ripped LOL
Love it!!

thats funny!! Some girls are just as strong if not stronger than guys from the waist down, its really cool But then again I have always loved working out legs more than any other part, so I do have a slight bias

I know, I know!!!!
Pam......he cannot lift that so he could not stand seeing you do it so its easier to just then cut you down and try to convince you that YOU are wrong......well compound exercises, especially the big powerlift ones like deads are great for getting a fat burn effect in the end as its almost like an anerobic exericse, alike squats, both of which if you go heavier and do 10 reps or so, you do get out of breath and get a bit winded! Anaerobic has been proven to have an end result at end of day of some fat burning.
you need to pull more energy to do these, more cals get used.
Linda
